This week's #womancrushwednesday
Princess Garnet til Alexandros XVII from Final Fantasy IX
Garnet was my first Final Fantasy heroine. (IX was my first and is my favorite.) Yeah she’s a princess
and yeah you have to rescue/save her in the first 20min of the game,
but any sort of typical weak princess bs stops there.
She risks everything to save her mother and save her kingdom.
She gets kidnapped,
has her summoning magic ripped from her body,
figures out how to get her summons back,
summons a ridiculously powerful guardian to protect her kingdom,
it STILL gets blown to pieces and her kingdom along with it (because there’s always a bigger fish XD)
Not to mention the identity crises when she finds out she’s not *actually* the born princess of Alexandria,
rather a summoner from a powerful tribe that was annihilated by the baddo who’s currently threatening her kingdom
She suffers so much trauma that she goes mute for part of the game
and then there’s that badass and gorgeous cut scene where she cuts her hair off
She resolves that she is going to keep. fighting.
Because she’s the queen now. And she has to protect her people.
How freaking badass is that.
THEN. She helps save the world (because Final Fantasy)
And loses the love of her life.
Does she mope around?
Call it quits?
She’s done because she can’t have her man?
She moves forward in his memory and rules her people,
a just, if lonely, queen.
And then Zidane (her man) comes back anyway ;) And she’s got one of the prettiest lullaby/theme songs in the history of theme songs (and I love me some good theme songs). Man. I’m so glad I play video games.
Cuz these ladies are freaking awesome.
Stay tuned for next week’s badass lady of the geekdom.
