The last time I toured Europe with @zigzagsmusic it was full of some real high moments and some tough emotional struggles. That particular tour we had the opportunity to play some truly amazing DIY spaces and connected with some incredible people and form some serious bonds of love. Bonds I’ll cherish forever. I felt like I was really coming into my own as a woman and had some amazing discussions with these people about music and our lives, being queer in the punk scene, and what it means to believe in something.
One of most magical places we played was @lughole in Sheffield. Run by incredible humans who had created a wonderful grimy totally inclusive space, equipped with a sign fashioned from a real coffin ⚰️ they’d nicked from some graveyard or abandoned mausoleum. There was a motorcycle repair shop in the back, kids learning and working on bikes while we played a sweaty, all out emotional set. One of the bands who opened were some young cats, baby teens, and their parents had come to join in with the punks to watch their kids shred away. Everyone was together. One of the venue heads, Chris, opened his heart and his flat to us and more than one bottle of Buckfast. Chris is a righteous cat. I also met some rad queer girls at that gig and we talked into the night about being judged for being too femme at lesbian bars, finding your own fashion style, and what it meant to them to have the Lughole in a town like Sheffield. It meant everything to have a place to be our freak selves and be embraced for it.
Currently the Lughole has to relocate and they are gonna need some help in doing so. I know they’ll pilfer some doors from some junkyard or university campus and build their own handicap accessible ramp... like they did before ❤️ But if you can spare a few quid for one of the best DIY spaces for queers and punks and weirdos and all people to feel welcome and embraced... the link to do so is below and in my bio. Thank you @lughole and @cris_clawlaw for everything. Thanks to @_glaysher_ for hipping me to the struggle. First few photos by @rsaylesphoto third one by this girl.
