Today we will end this small journey inside Puccini's "La Bohème" 🎼🎵🎶
If you go to see this opera prepare your tissues because the final act of La Bohème is one of the saddest ones ever.. 😔
We find Marcello and Rodolfo back in their garret, several months after the freezing winter we left in act three. They are trying to concentrate on their jobs, but they end up talking with nostalgia about their (ex) girlfriends, from whom they both split.
Their other two friends, Schaunard and Colline, arrive in the garret with a very very poor dinner to share in four, but the group doesn't get discouraged and, laughing, they pretend to be at a luxurious party with an enormous banquet. 😆 Their imagination flows so much that they start to dance together, and Scaunard and Colline improvise a fake sword duel.
In the middle of this joyful scene, Musetta bursts in the room saying that she found Mimì in the middle of the street, terribly ill, asking to be taken to Rodolfo.
Mimì is assisted on a bed and the friends leave Rodolfo alone with her. The two go through all the happy moments they spent together, especially the day they met in that same garret.. All the friends return home with medicines and a muff.
After reassuring Rodolfo that she feels better, Mimì falls asleep. While Musetta prays, Schaunard discovers that Mimì has died.. The curtain closes on Rodolfo crying and screaming Mimì' s name.. 😔😔😔😔
In the picture, another "real life" opera couple: Daniela Dessì and Fabio Armiliato. Daniela Dessì has been one of the most important sopranos of our age thanks to her vocal technique combined with her acting skills, and will surely be considered a "milestone" for the future generations, especially for the Puccini's roles she played.
