Basically, “I wanna lose three pounds” and “I want to be 5’10 like Cindy Crawford.” Haha. In all honesty, though, I am making progress at boxing, particularly how to jab, cross-jab, cross-hooks, upper cuts and kicking - skills I never really ever knew! Helps with my mental health! 🥊 😎👠❤️✊🏽 #meangirls #clueless #protectbearsears

Jumping into Monday like...
After summiting Sisnaajini (Mt Blanca) 14,344 ft in the Sangre de Cristo range, our @nativesoutdoors graphic designer @vernankee and I went for a stroll up the dunes. We were both awestruck by the sheer size of these dunes and the story of there formation essentially being sand from an ancient sea bed that was deposited by wind during the late Pleistocene epoch. Next time we will rent a sandboard... #jerry #nativesoutdoors #native #accessfund #patagonia #americanalpineclub #liveclimbrepeat #thenorthface #neverstopexploring #adidasterrex #protectpubliclands #protectbearsears #protectgrandstaircase

It heals the soul and hurts the body. Win-win I'd say. Ecstatic to make the first trip of the season down to the creek. Temps were a secret and splitters were long!

The @santafeindianmarket is bustling with incredible artists and artwork this weekend! @protectbearsears has a booth this year, where attendees can learn how to defend #BearsEars National Monument. We are also asking Native artists about their artistic ties to Bears Ears and about how we can elevate their crafts. Here are some photos of our favorite artists. The market continues today. Stop by our booth today at the Santa Fe Conference Center courtyard and say hi! We are also wearing our latest t-shirt “Bears Ears Is Healing” look, a collaborative design between @protectbearsears and @nativesoutdoors! Desert season is just around the corner.  As the leaves turn in the mountains, as nights grow longer and deeper, and as those warm breezes of summer fade, there are those of us that turn our gaze towards the red-earth refuge of desert towers and sandcastles. •

Autumn is easily my favorite time of the year.  The rhythm and pace of fall in the Utah desert are a little simpler; camping under starlit skies, dinner with friends while the mesas and canyonlands around us light up in a ghostly fire; days spent with crack gloves on our hands and red dust between our toes; and the unforgettable feeling of endless space around you. •

Perspective. •

Come find me in Utah this September and October.  Link in profile if you're up for an adventure chasing desert towers and refining your crack climbing skills with me. .

‘The air is untroubled... I become aware of the immense silence in which I am lost. Not a silence so much as a great stillness - for there are few sounds: the freak of some bird in a juniper tree, an eddy of wind which passes and fades like a sigh, the ticking of the watch on my wrist - slight noises which break the sensation of absolute silence but in the same time exaggerate my sense of the surrounding, overwhelming peace. A suspension in time, a continuous present. If I look at the small device strapped to my wrist the numbers, even the sweeping second hand, seem meaningless, almost ridiculous.’ Edward Abbey - Desert Solitaire, A Season in the Wilderness, 1968. =======================

Battleship Rock and the view of both Rooster, Sitting Hen Butte from ‘the ship’ as we aptly named it. July 4th 2018. .

It has been announced that the intentional shrinkage of two ‘National Monuments’ in the state of Utah: Grand Staircase Escalante and Bears Ears - a reduction of 2 million acres of public land - the biggest reduction in U.S. history. .

Abbey said it best in his introduction ‘This is not a travel guide but an elegy. A memorial. You’re holding a tombstone on your hands. A bloody rock. Don’t drop it on your foot - throw it something big and glassy. What do you have to lose?

"Loving life right about now" doesnt quite cover it... @jamesqmartin @lennecefer and roughly 50 locals spent all day cleaning up the local crag outside of Gallup, NM for the @americanalpine Cleanup. After a brief rain moved through, we had an opportunity to climb (Technorazor 5.12d, pictured). Mentmore holds a special place in my heart since our first trip out in 2015 with @eugenie.w.bostrom @chaosrobles and @erik_murdock which would turn into a project funded by @thenorthface. This project sent 12 Native students through a 5 day single pitch course with @pangaeamountainguides culminating in a public cleanup and social day with 70+ people showing up. Mentmore's walls have introduced youth to rock climbing and have kept locals busy with climbing ranging from 5.easy to 5.13. Days like today and the people I have met through events like this reinforce my commitment to the path that I am on. So grateful for these days. Huge shout out to @americanalpine and @thenorthface for such a necessary event! 📸 the one and only @jamesqmartin

Utah Diné Bikéyah is a nonprofit organization that works toward healing of people and the Earth by supporting indigenous communities in protecting their culturally significant, ancestral lands. Utah Diné Bikéyah’s mission is to: “Preserve and protect the cultural and natural resources of ancestral Native American lands to benefit and bring healing to people and the Earth.”

At the end of June and the beginning of July I was a part of an amazing media team lead by @jadethemighty of @indigenousrising and documented the 2018 Protecting Mother Earth Conference. I met so many amazing and inspiring people. It was a huge honor to be there.

So it begins @granaryrow Murals!
Over the next month, 10 murals are going up in the Granary District. I’ll be at @fisherbrewing for most of the month. Stop by and say hi and enjoy some delicious beverages! Two murals inline. This one will be the most detailed to date. #protectbearsears #fisherhistory Thank you @slcrda for the opportunity to showcase some Utah history!

Thrilled to be here in a packed house at the @kingsenglishbookshop with @hellsbackbonegrill and @sierraclubutah talking about how to protect our #publiclands and our rural economies. #savegrandstaircase #protectbearsears

Aspen you blew our minds! Thank you for bringing your all. Not only did we get to play one of my favorite shows but I had the privilege of meeting two amazing women: @cass_salsa, an indefatigable activist working with @utahpandos to fight the social injustices faced by indigenous communities and one of the most powerful voices behind the movement to #protectbearsears and @aishaweinhold the founder of @nomanslandfilmfestival and an incredible champion for women’s representation in the outdoors. I’m so looking forward to collaborating with you both! Thank you @livili for being at the ❤️ of it all.
See you tonight Minneapolis! @torreslovesyou is on at 8:30 📸 @utah_gimmie222

The #BearsEars Buttes and the #Daneros #uranium mine near #BearsEarsNationalMonument, #Utah Aerials flown by: @lighthawk_org

Grand Canyon Trust has appealed the BLM's approval of expansion plans for the Daneros uranium mine on the doorstep of Bears Ears and #NaturalBridgesNationalMonument.

We did so because we believe that the BLM did not take a hard look at the potential impacts the mine expansion might have, and did not consider any alternatives other than keeping things as they are and the expansion as proposed by Energy Fuels. The BLM now has until mid-October to respond.
The BLM approval would allow Energy Fuels to expand the Daneros Mine to more than 10 times its current size, from 4.5 acres to 46 acres, increase uranium ore production from 100,000 tons to half a million tons, and extend the life of the mine from seven to 20 years. The BLM decision also greenlights the expansion of the mine’s waste-rock, uranium ore, and low-grade ore storage sites twentyfold and allows Energy Fuels to construct up to eight new ventilation shafts and associated access roads anywhere in a nearly 1,200-acre area around the mine. Uranium ore recovered at the mine would betrucked through Bears Ears National Monument to the company’s White Mesa Mill.
#Radiation is particularly insidious because you can’t see it, smell it, or taste it, and yet it can be harmful to human health for generations. Instead of opening new and expanding old uranium mines, our society should be doing our best to clean up our toxic legacy for the generations yet to be born. We’re working to make sure that this mine does not add to that legacy.

your “president” lied to you. your “president’s” decision to shrink the size of Bears Ears and Grand Staircase-Escalante was deliberate, and directly influenced by an industry that spends millions of dollars lobbying the government to get what it wants.
