I don’t want it to sound good to other people.” This is my favorite part of Mel Robbin’s Ted talk. 👏🏽 In all honesty, I usually know what I want, but it doesn’t always feel good enough or noble enough. That holds me back from acting on my goals. Do you ever feel this way? •


I took a few minutes to be brutally honest about what I truly want out of life:
1. I want to be a boss so I don’t have to work for 💩 bosses (been there done that)
2. I want to decide which projects I work on so I won’t be bogged down by people who are afraid to try
3. I want to travel the world so I can escape the “drama” of the US and understand other people’s realities
4. I want to have honest relationships so I don’t have to live in fear of what’s unsaid •

Ok, I have been "procrastinating" on this project for almost a year.
.
It is a beautiful project that has been commissioned to me by a good friend, doing something I like, about something I know and work with. .
I was excited when I was given the task and yet...it has taken me almost a year to do almost nothing of it!!!
.
I feel ashamed and guilty, not in a deep tragic way, but in the way you feel like when you kinda let someone down and yourself down and disempower yourself.
.
I could have done it in a week ...had I pushed myself intelligently.
.
But instead I allowed my insecurities and anxiety and laziness and excuses to rule over my gratitude, my passion, my creativity and my work ethic. .
This is going to stop today!
.
My friend is going to have my part of this project completed and delivered to him real pronto, and the world is soon going to be able to admire it (and hopefully buy it 🤑)
.
I am going to post bits and bobs of it as it gets completed, so...hopefully I am going to feel accountable and stop being the PROCRASTINATION KINGPIN I am today AND hopefully again...not gonna make a fool of myself.

Today I want to talk about #anxiety, and #maladaptive strategies for dealing with it. We all have patterns for dealing with the difficult things in life. Perhaps these tools once served us, but sometimes they stop being useful, and need to be replaced with something better. I was looking at @lauren_bongiorno’s latest post where she talks about life hacks a few days ago (check her out, very useful and inspirational). She says, “If you engage in a habit that doesn’t serve you, instead of feeling regretful about it and just moving on, take the time to explore why you did it. Really understand what emotions drive your decisions. It’s the only way to break the cycle.” When I read this the other day I thought, I can’t think of anything I do that’s like that! 😂 Well today was a slap in the face, because I was stressed out about understanding something in my chemistry lecture (I was absent and taking notes on my own). I did NOT want to try to figure it out on my own, and I spun into a cycle of anxiety for an hour an a half and wasted a bunch of time scrolling through social media which only made me more anxious! Why would I do this to myself? It’s a strategy I used to use, and probably continue to use subconsciously, but here it is in all its obviousness. Here is my chance to observe myself, question my motives and emotions, and make a positive change. Going forward, my goals is to try to notice these moments and break myself away from my screen, then do something calming like meditate, play or listen to music, read a book, put on a face mask and just chill, etc. Anything to calm down a bit for up to a half hour, then re-approach the thing giving me anxiety.
