Frida Kahlo painted her cast to past the time after her injury. We wanted to allow the children to experience this act of painting on a cast, so we made casts out of paper bags and gave them paints and a mirror. After doing this activity, they felt more sympathy for Frida, understanding a little bit of what she felt after her accident. @museofridakahlo #fridakahlo #lakesideartstudio #childrensartstudio #kidsartstudio #childrensart #childrensartwork #kidsart #kidsartwork #preschoolart #preschoolartwork #creativity #creativekids #creativeplayspace #processoverproducf #processbasedart #processart #arteducation #artsed #art #childrenneedmoreart #kidsneedmoreart #creativelife #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers

This year, we have been connecting with the personal histories of famous artists through children’s books. The last few weeks have been spent reading about Frida Kahlo. This morning, we read Frida Kahlo and her Animalitos. Afterwards, we had a discussion about why she had so many animals. Knowing what we’ve read about her so far, one child commented, “She needed those animals because she had so many feelings.” It is amazing to see how much empathy the children have developed for the artists we have studied so far, whether it be understanding how hard it was for Yayoi Kusama to become an artist despite her family’s wishes or having compassion for Pablo Picasso who had to burn some of his paintings as he was living poor in Paris. We’ll read more books on Frida and other artists as it continues to be an interest of the children. #lakesideartstudio #childrensartstudio #kidsartstudio #childrensart #childrensartwork #kidsart #kidsartwork #preschoolart #preschoolartwork #creativity #creativekids #creativeplayspace #processoverproducf #processbasedart #processart #arteducation #artsed #art #childrenneedmoreart #kidsneedmoreart #creativelife #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers

Channeling Frida Kahlo. This year, we have been reading about different artists in children’s books. So far, we’ve learned about Wassily Kandinsky, Jackson Pollock, Georges Seurat, Yayoi Kusama, Pablo Picasso and Joan Miró. Though they all have their own unique style, they have connections with each other somehow. We learned that Frida met Pablo Picasso, who gave her a pair of clay earrings in the shape of hands. We’ll be learning more about Frida in the coming weeks and creating some inspired artwork. #fridakahlo #womeninart #lakesideartstudio #childrensartstudio #kidsartstudio #childrensart #childrensartwork #kidsart #kidsartwork #preschoolart #preschoolartwork #creativity #creativekids #creativeplayspace #processoverproducf #processbasedart #processart #arteducation #artsed #art #childrenneedmoreart #kidsneedmoreart #creativelife #teachersofinstagram #teachersfollowteachers
