This timed drill, the 5-10-5, is one we use here at SPECTRUM to assess an athlete’s agility.

Here are a couple of things we look for...
✅ Did they breakdown into a proper base position to change directions?
✅How many yards did it take them to break down?
✅Did they maintain good posture through their change of direction?
✅How long did it take them to reaccelerate the opposite direction?
✅Were they faster performing the test one way vs the other?

Coach Dave @athletek_ demonstrating the 5-10-5 SHUTTLE DRILL, also known as the Pro Agility Drill, a great tool for working on your AGILITY and short-distance explosiveness.

The ability to cover ground quickly defines SPEED. But when you're playing your sport, chances are you won't be running in a straight line for more than a few consecutive seconds.

Depending on your level, if you can perform the 5-10-5 Shuttle (cones 5 yards apart) in less than 4.5 seconds, you're doing pretty well.

When your athletes change directions in shuttles to they cut or round the line? Week 1 we see a lot of athletes adding unwanted time and distance to their shuttle drills because they are inefficient at turning. •


The path you take to the line should be the exact same path you take back to the start. Plant your foot with intention and rebound back in the same line of attack. Otherwise your 90 meter shuttle is really a 99 meter shuttle
