Phew! Made it! 🙌🏿 Alright, so where does that leave us? Well, in some ways, in an unexpected place. Many of the persistent messages from Wellness suggest that a vegetarian or vegan diet is best for overall health. However, at least as far as mental health is concerned, there is insufficient evidence to make that claim. -

But, what is clear is that the typical Western or Standard American Diet is not good for mental health. 😟

The best evidence at the moment suggests that diets rich in vegetables, whole grains, olive oil, berries, nuts, fish and seafood, and low in sugar and saturated/trans fat is best for our brains. Absolutely no surprises there. I'd add that a regular intake of fermented foods can also support gut health, which is an integral part of brain health.

It seems that it's not simply a case of cutting a particular food out of your diet. The emphasis, I'd suggest, is on diet *QUALITY*. When you eat grains or cereals are they mostly minimally processed whole grains? If you eat meat, is it the best quality meat you can afford or is it mostly processed meat and meat products? Would you be willing to eat less meat if it were of a better quality? How much sugar are you consuming? Honestly. Could we roll that back a bit? Do you eat a mixture of raw and cooked vegetables or are they all boiled to within an inch of their lives? Do you eat a wide variety of foods or do you tend to eat the same foods over and over again? Emphasising overall diet quality and variety is likely to yield better, more sustainable outcomes than focusing on individual macro- or micronutrients.

The Doshas ~ Vata, Pitta + Kapha are a model for understanding the way the elements (earth, water, fire, air and ether) work in the body. When Kapha is present there is Earth and Water. In the body this translates to structure and lubrication. We all have all elements but those with mostly KAPHA are usually ‘heavyset’ and naturally athletic when they exercise. Regular Chiro visit for the kids an I this afternoon. My middle kid told all the things to the Doc while he got adjusted. He’s very familiar with this office and with this doctor (even more so than his pediatrician). He’s not afraid of her hands on his neck or his back. He’s seen me get adjusted every month for a year postpartum. .....
This is the kind of doctor/patient relationships that I want to foster for him and my other children as well. This is the type of care I pray he continues to seek. The kind that works as both symptom management and preventative. This is the kind of health care that we all deserve.

It’s the last day of summer!!🌞I’m squeezing every last sun ray and river romp of it that I can. GET OUTSIDE AND EMBRACE IT! Also feeling blessed with our Indian summer in the Bay🙏🏼 Seasonal changes (especially this one) can be super rough on us mentally and physically. It can impact our mood, sleep, immune system, hormones, digestion, etc. The first step to staying on top of it is being AWARE of how it’s affecting you. Then you can make some adjustments to take care of yourself. Here are my tips: - eat vitamin D rich foods or take some vitamin D/K2 in the AM (I like @thorneresearch drops- please don’t trust most supplement companies.)
- eat plenty of fat and protein to help you stay warm
- get sunlight exposure in your eyeballs to help regulate energy/sleep
- drink warm beverages
- eat warming foods and spices to keep your digestion stimulated
- get cozy and spend plenty of time with loved ones (this is how Danish people get through long, dark winters and they’re super happy!)
- spend time outside no matter what the weather is like, your body/mind will thank you!
- meditate everyday, it helps EVERYTHING! 💜
