The presidential traverse started off on a strong note with waking up at 1:00am, and hitting the trail by 4:00am. I guess in the dark you can’t see how much snow has covered the tops of the peaks haha. As we gained altitude, we soon found out that we were trudging through waist deep snow without being properly equipped for these conditions. By the time we reach 4800 ft, we were embraced by 70mph winds hitting our faces at the very least (-20) degrees. After careful consideration of our current state, and where we were going, we decided it was best to shelf the traverse until a future date.
We learned a lot in a short amount of time, and also realized that winter has come very VERY early this October in New England. Very inspired for the season ahead of us, and looking forward to many more winter hikes with these mates in the near future!
