Something #eye-opening I noticed today...
I am doing an involved drawing for someone as a gift. It is only half done and has already taken dozens of hours. .
Before I left on Emersons bus-rescuing adventure for a week, I had been making small, #consistent #progress on the drawing almost every day, and I was getting really excited as it was coming together.
🚌 I left for a week.
🚌 I am back. 🚌 My #perspective has changed. .
Now I am looking at the entire thing, thinking, YIKES, this requires so much #concentration, #effort, #time, #focus, and I still have SO much left to do. .
Yep, you guessed it — I have been avoiding starting it again. I have been home for three days now, and haven’t worked on it at all. .
Today though, I caught on to my little #mindgames I was playing with myself. SO! I changed the focus. .
I thought to myself, if I just work on this 1 LITTLE area and only focus on the time and effort it will take for me to do this 1 LITTLE area, it doesn’t seem so overwhelming, and makes it a whole lot more manageable for me to #start up again. .
Does that make sense? .
That’s how it is with everything in life, INCLUDING #fitness . .
My point is to NOT look at the 50 pounds that you want to lose, NOT to look at the months it will take for you to lose that, NOT to look at the endless number of #workouts and endless salads... or whatever causes you to #groan and avoid it. .
My point IS to look at this week only. You can control the next 7 days—that seems manageable, right? Just seven days. .
You can do anything for 7 days right? . 🌞#Workout for 30 minutes a day for ONLY 7 days, right? 🌞Eat according to the portion fix containers for ONLY 7 days, right? 🌞Get your hundred ounces of water in every day for ONLY 7 days, right? .
See, when you look at it for #shortchunks of time and effort withOUT the expectation of #poundslost or reaching a certain #goal, you are much more inclined to start, to get the momentum you need to up your motivation, and then to keep going. .
Even though this little part in this picture is only like 1/30th of the entire drawing, if I #focus on just this one little part, I know I can do it and #getstarted
