Swam 25 minutes at Lee Pool today, had it all to myself which was nice. Legs feeling GOOD and ready to PARTY. These past 18 weeks took a lot out of me–physically, mentally, emotionally. Not just with training, but with life. So I've spent the past few days back in Ohio, because honestly, I just needed a minute: to pause, to slow down, to be flat-out exhausted; to feel proud, and disappointed, and all of the other complicated emotions that come from achieving a big goal, though not in the way you maybe first imagined or hoped; and really just to give myself a moment to catch my breath and let past few months actually sink in.

MOST RECENT

First run since the Marathon. I just wanted to get out for a mile to check things out. Most of the nagging problems from the last half of the training cycle are still there. I'm thinking I probably won't be setting a new PR at this Saturday's Turkey Trot.

Since the ultra it’s felt like my body hasn’t really been mine, it’s felt heavy and like all my muscles have been cranked up just that bit tighter. I’ve been meaning to stretch, but just got lazy to be honest! I’ve been swimming, mountain biking, on a little run, but just haven’t stretched! Now lower back pain has entered into the equation I’m going to be making stretching (and making sure I’m not stationary for long periods of time) part of my routine over the next few weeks. Hopefully it’ll kick start me into feeling more in tune with myself! Here’s a little picture from my lunchtime wander today 😊

My physiotherapist said he was impressed how my recovery (plantar fasciosis) is progressing, and I might be able to do some light runs in 2 weeks time. Best news today!

The first run back after the marathon is the worst, am I right? Everything hurts and it feels hard. Then all of the sudden, it is over and you are screaming “heck yeah, I’m a superstar; what we running tomorrow?” At least that’s what I do. I know this doesn’t look like much, but today I squatted 27.5kg pain-free. This is the most I’ve squatted ALL YEAR. Last week I squatted 20kg pain-free. Working in sets of 3 is letting me build strength without over-working my patella tendon. It’s letting me build strength back. This is a slow process and I’m a way away still from my previous squat max and a way away from a pain-free life. But I’m on the road and I’m excited.

5 x 2 band-assisted pull ups
5 x 3 front squats
3 x 3/3 split squats
4 x 15 rear delt flies
4 x 15 wide-grip lat pull downs
4 x 15 chin-grip pull downs
3 x 15 upright rows
4 x 8 wide-grip bent-over cable rows
Battle rope finisher

Today’s workout was sort of two different workouts. First half solo, focussing on pull up skills and rehab; second half with @hjframpton building some size.
