Pretty good read from the NY Times interview with Melo. Hit the bio for the link to the article. Say what you will about Melo's shortcomings here but at the end of the day, the organization gave him a contract extension with a no trade clause. Then they wanted to push him out through cheap shots in the papers and second hand ghostwriters when they realized they were morons. Great job Phil 😐.

Reasons why the Knicks could make the playoffs: (via: fansided)

No Distractions
-
-
Nothing will help the New York Knicks more in 2017-18 than the fact that there shouldn’t be any non-basketball distractions. That would be a significant change from 2016-17, when the off-court distractions overshadowed any progress made on the hardwood.

With both Carmelo Anthony and Phil Jackson out of New York, the Knicks should be able to lead a season without any significant distractions. -

The Eastern Conference is Depleted
-
-
Three of the eight Eastern Conference teams that made the playoffs in 2017-18 lost their franchise player. That list consists of the Atlanta Hawks (Paul Millsap), the Chicago Bulls (Jimmy Butler), and the Indiana Pacers (Paul George). All three of those players joined teams in the Western Conference, meaning three postseason-caliber teams are now expected to drop off with no guaranteed replacement.

Jeff Hornacek’s past success
-
-
Prior to becoming head coach of the New York Knicks, Jeff Hornacek held the same title with the Phoenix Suns. During his tenure in Phoenix, Hornacek established himself as one of the most promising coaches in the NBA.

The runner-up for the 2013-14 Coach of the Year award, Hornacek’s past success implies that he could succeed once again with his 2016-17 restrictions now lifted. -

The Roster is Deeper
-
-
The New York Knicks are expected to struggle to overcome the trade of Carmelo Anthony. Losing the primary scoring option hurts in any scenario, and the Knicks will be forced to overcome his departure without much established talent whatsoever.

True as that may be, there’s no rational way to dispute the fact that New York has a deeper roster in 2017-18 than it did in 2016-17.

Personnel Development
-
-
The New York Knicks lost talent, but they also gained it in more ways than just free agency and a trade. New York’s current players aren’t set in stone as the players they are, and that may be the most important point of emphasis.

The young players who either struggled or excelled in 2016-17 should be better in 2017-18—and the team should improve because of it.

Thoughts? 🤔
