This past week we commemorated the 6th ‘yohrtzeit’ (anniversary of passing) of our grandfather, Nosson Gestetner, ’Opa’ as we called him.
We also had two #PopUpShops, our kids had winter-break for the first half of the week, we had a photo shoot the next day, also had late night outs to squeeze in between, Shabbat to prep today, and no show babysitters to top it all off.
Shabbat couldn’t come soon enough!! Every week I have the custom to print out the weekly newsletter that #ourdadtherabbi writes because I never have time to enjoy reading it until then. This week, following in the footsteps and tradition of our Opa’s ‘shmate’ business (clothing business), we wanted to share a little about what #ourdadtherabbi wrote and give you glimpse into the fabric of our makeup. “My father passed away on Shabbat afternoon. He was in the synagogue that morning and given the honor of an Aliya (call up) to the Torah. He passed away that afternoon during lunch suffering a heart attack after my mother's cholent. That to me is a sign that he went straight to heaven… “
As children, we used to marvel at our grandfather’s shirt factory in Surry Hills, Sydney. He was meticulous about his shmatte business, but even more meticulous about Shabbat and the observance to stop from the mundane, and enter the spiritual. (Continued in comments below)
