I’m in ISTANBUL!
I was lucky enough to visit Istanbul last year and absolutely fell in love with the place (my parents are crazy over this place so it makes picking travel destinations quite easy). I decided to take some leave and my brother and head over.
Day 1. 22km, 34 626 steps and a few snacks down. -Simit: bread ring covered in sesame seeds. Simple and Dangerously good. Little “trolly” type glass boxes are on almost every corner. -Salep: creamy hot drink made from the tubers of orchids. It tastes like a milk tart. Days. -Pomegranate juice: freshly squeezed and refreshing. Sweet and tart. -Cay(tea) and baklava -Balik-Ekmek: fish sandwich that you get at these golden boat kitchens at Eminönü Harbour. It’s only 10 lira and fills you up. -Osmanli Lokmasi: like a koeksister but less sweet and kinda gooey in the middle. Amaaaze. -Grilled salted corn: something different from our mielies back home. The texture of the actual kernels was different and my brother was convinced it tasted like grass. It was actually tasty but each to their own.
Still so much more to see and eat. X
