So tonight I sat in a public hearing held to discuss some historic rezoning taking place in the Jerome section of The Bronx.
I was actually asked to “testify” and speak but instead I’ve decided to share this small piece and be a spectator of the process.
Unfortunately rezoning will have plenty of terrible side effects that will leave families displaced due to a lack of affordable housing as well as removing the auto industries work ethic from the area to be likely replaced by retail and customer service work that falls below the median needed to even qualify for “affordable housing”. So of course there are plenty issues that arise with rezoning however, the Jerome area of The Bronx has not had any sort of rezoning or planning since the 60’s which is why it is such a huge issue today. Personally, I feel that our Borough President @ruben_diaz_jr loves his borough and respects its people enough to consider all aspects of what rezoning means for all people and businesses involved. Likewise, I would have had a mouthful to say if council woman @msvanessa77 of District 16 didn’t have as much of an invested interest for the positive outcome of the Jerome rezoning. She has a plan and she also has her ear to the street. My goal is to get with Gibson and be apart of the change I want to see! With the hopes of the Certificate of No Harassment being passed the most we can do if the rezoning plans move forward is to support the people of Jerome with their needs of “affordable” housing and jobs created for the locals that do offer salaries that allow the people of Jerome to stay on Jerome. #PoliticallyFit #PoliFi #PoliSci #Hearing #PublicHearing #BronxRezoning #TheBronx #Rezoning #Jerome #BP #RubenDiaz
