Proud to march with #plannedparenthood against #wealthcare ✊🏻(Thank you to the representatives who came out in support- we will keep working) According to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office (run by an economist picked by Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price and others) this Senate healthcare bill will: - Increase the number of uninsured people by 22 million in 2026
- Increase the number of uninsured people by 15 million *next year*
- Cause 4 million people to lose employer-provided plans in 2018
- Cut Medicaid by $772 billion. Just for reference, Medicaid covers 39% of children, 60% of children with disabilities, and 64% of people in nursing homes. - Raise premiums for older people. For a 64-year-old with an annual income of $56,800, the premium in 2026 would average $20,500 a year, or three times the amount expected under the current law. …all to give the 400 highest-income taxpayers tax cuts worth about $33 billion from 2019 through 2028 — which roughly equals the Medicaid coverage that is being cut for 726,000 people in Nevada, West Virginia, Arkansas, and Alaska *combined* (CBPP)
If you're like me, you think our healthcare system needs improvement. This bill doesn't do it. I hope you’ll join me in using 5calls.org to call our senators to oppose this bill.
