It’s definitely a little early but as I was sitting here lying awake at 3 am I realized there was actually a #fridaysareforfosters I could make...
I know I’ve suddenly stopped doing them and I’m sorry, I know there’s a lot of topics I should cover but I struggle to get to it. I’m coming into a year-long period of time where I will have like 5 different things happening at once along with my senior year of high school 😩 I’m gonna keep up my volunteering as much as possible and my insta support but many of you know that Fridays are that deep breath you let out at the end of a long week. I’ll do these as I get the time and inspiration.
There are other accounts you can visit for foster info too:
@kittenxlady And her YouTube!
Anyway. Let’s get to the ACTUAL point of this post!
Sleep and bottle babies!
A lot of foster parents know this struggle: raising bottle babies. This usually entails long nights of waking up every two hours to feed hungry mouths who can’t quite fend for themselves yet. As rewarding as it is, it can take a toll on foster parents at the same time!
However, if you watched Mythbusters you might be familiar with the episode in which they tested whether or not you’re more alert after staying awake for a long period of time, or if it’s more beneficial to take even a quick 20 minute rest every so often to recharge some.
The results drastically showed the latter!
It is SO much more beneficial for you to rest when you have the opportunity, even if you don’t fall asleep. It makes you more alert which not only benefits you but it can benefit your fosters too!
So foster parents, please remember to rest when you can, and it’s also totally okay to call in some help if you’re overwhelmed. Everyone is human and everyone has limits. Please don’t push yourself too hard!
