Lauren Walker, head of sourcing, shared this and I love it so much:
“ Elemi comes from the resin released from the bark of the Pili tree. It has a fresh and spicy aroma combined with citrus and woody undertones. Elemi has similar skin conditioning properties as frankincense and myrrh and help support wellness and relaxation.
Deforestation of the Pili tree was rampant over the past few decades and the tree was on the verge of being endangered. Also, the people of the Bicol region did not profit from the Elemi oil of their native tree. The resin was shipped to foreign countries and distilled, leaving no economic future for these local people in the Elemi market. A local woman by the name of Rosalina sought to change the Pili industry in Bicol. Young living partnered with Rosalina to educate the people about sustainable harvesting to ensure the betterment of their livelihoods. Young living eagerly offered the Happy Pili Tree farm a grant to build the first commercial scale distillery and help forge a bright economic future for the local Bicolano’s. Distilling the oil on site allows the Happy Pili Tree farm to practice Young Living’s Seed to Seal principles at every level.
Please share this Elemi Seed to Seal story and take pride that with every purchase of YL’s Elemi Essential Oil, you are supporting the livelihood of the people of the Bicol region and protecting the Pili tree from endangerment for years to come! ”
