В мире существует множество сортов риса, самый популярный и самый вкусный - белый рис, его употребляет 99% населения Земли. Однако парадокс заключается в том, что популярность и вкус продукта зачастую обратно пропорциональны его пользе.

🍓 БЕЛЫЙ РИС БЕСПОЛЕЗЕН
Белый рис - это рис, очищенный от самой главной его части - кожуры, в которой находятся необходимые организму микроэлементы и которая является иммуномодулятором, запускающим и усиливающим в сотни раз иммунитет человека. Из кожуры риса создают лекарства, в том числе от сахарного диабета. А белый рис бесполезен, в нем ничего нет кроме крахмала. Кроме того, белый рис повышает риск развития некоторых заболеваний, таких как диабет.

🍓 БУРЫЙ РИС ОТ ВСЕХ БОЛЕЗНЕЙ
Нам повезло - в магазинах продаётся неочищенный бурый (чёрный) рис. Вся японская макробиотика основана именно на таком рисе. Бурый рис помогает при лечении анемии, плохого зрения, сахарного диабета, выпадения волос. Клетчатка, содержащаяся в нем, прекрасно влияет на пищеварение. Чем темнее рис, тем он полезнее, тем больше в нем антиоксидантов. В Древнем Китае чёрный рис ели только императоры и их семьи.

🍓 ВЫБОР ЗА ВАМИ
Употреблять белый рис или нет - выбор каждого, я только развеиваю мифы. Лично я покупаю только чёрный рис, варится он 40 минут, можно замачивать на ночь.

❗️Только, пожалуйста, не заливайте рис молоком, не запивайте еду, хорошо пережевывайте пищу и не пейте минимум 2 часа после еды, подробнее об этом в следующих постах.

It’s been a couple of years now since I decided to clean up my diet; I went from binging on processed food constantly to eating a mostly completely plant based diet full of colourful, nutritious, hydrating foods. I did it for my health and to better fuel my body to be its best. I now actively love eating foods like this as they make me feel great! (I still definitely indulge in a vegan brownie here and there too 😂) I do not label myself as vegan. I do not eat meat, or dairy, however I do occasionally eat fish/eggs. My diet is overwhelmingly plant based though as it’s what I like to eat! I’d say I eat vegan food 85% of the time, with the remaining 15% being the odd time I eat an egg or a bit of seafood. I’m not here to preach, though. Eat what makes you feel good & what makes you happy ✌🏻🥗💛 #CoolStory

What on earth is Iodine? An often neglected nutrient that’s certainly worth discussing. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Iodine is a very important mineral for maintenance of a healthy thyroid and metabolism.  Deficiency of Iodine can lead to slow metabolism, hypothyroidism (‘sluggish thyroid’), weight gain, fatigue etc. Most people can easily reach the recommended 150mcg of Iodine per day on a plant based diet without supplementation, however pregnant (220mcg/day RDI) and lactating (270mcg/day RDI) mothers are often recommended to take an Iodine supplement and that’s certainly something that you should discuss with your personal Doctor/Nutritionist. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
For those not supplementing with Iodine the below are great natural plant based sources that are easy to incorporate into your diet and will help you easily achieve the daily recommendation of 150mcg. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱 Dulse Flakes (1/2 tsp of Dulse Flakes will get you the recommended 150mcg/day)
Plant Proof Tip: Put the Dulse flakes into your salt/pepper shaker with these minerals so every time you are seasoning your food you get a hit of Iodine too).

🌱 Nori (1.5 sheets of standard Nori will get you the recommended 150mcg/day)
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱 Wakame
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱 Kelp (be careful as 1/64th of a tsp provides 350mcg of Iodine so a little goes a long way). ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱 30g Cranberries offers 100mcg of Iodine ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱 Iodised Sea Salt
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌱Certain types of bread (check the label) ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
It's important to note this is not a mineral you want to go overboard with.  The RDI is set at the safe level for optimal function based on the clinical science.  People who consume too much iodine may develop an overactive thyroid or 'hyperthyroidism'' which can cause heart palpitations, weight loss, fatigue etc.  Consumption drastically higher than the RDI should only be based on a clinical indication & recommended by a professional. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

So take home message - Iodine is important to consider for all of us, and particularly important for pregnant or breast feeding women, but it's not something you really need to think about once you have it worked into your routine.

Mom brought some amazing seeds & grains Norwegian crackers. We topped it w/ some mashed avocado w/ red onion, lime, pink salt, amazingly ripe tomatoes & some Everything but the Bagel seasoning from Trader Joe’s. It was heavenly. 😍
