Naar buitenland gaan ✈️ Thinking about cross-cultural identity somewhere over frozen Quebec province. On the way to the country that my passport is from 🇺🇸 It is not the country in which I was born 🇨🇳 nor is it the country where I live and feel at home in 🇳🇱 but it is my language and a big part of my cultural identity. And it is where my family is 💕
I can’t fly often, I would also prefer not to ride in a car or tram for too long either. In recent years I’ve found that I get extreme bouts of nausea. I like that I can exist more wholly as a person and live a better lifestyle in Amsterdam because my bike 🚲 is my primary mode of transport. I need to breathe fresh air when I’m in transition and feel in control of the way I am moving, in a tangible way that is more connected to nature.
This is the first time I’ve been a knitter on a long flight and it has helped pass the time in a more relaxed way. In a way, knitting has helped me build up strength to be able to make a long-belated visit back to the States to spend extended time with my family.
