Finally got to finish off this print! 😂
To state the obvious: It is a steering wheel. ⬅️SWIPE➡
Short story long:
I originally wanted to pause the print and embed the steel part. The steel part is needed absorb the wear of radial forces in the wheel when steering the racer, something that the plastic material would normally not have been able to do.
I did some successful testing to do this operation but when it came about the real deal, 5 hours into the print, the steel part was put in place, I was ready to click “resume print” on the print controller when the printer displayed: “no move”.. and I was unable to continue the print… 😭
Ready to give up or resource some assistance I realized I could bolt the sliced parts together through the built in holes that the metal part already had and design some bolt holes in the model itself. This is the biggest part I have printed yet, that in itself is pretty cool (to me). I decided to print the part oriented upside down to save support material, unfortunately this made the surface a little rough, so some sanding was appropriate.
All in all I'm pleased with it. 👍
