Life is all about balance & I’m always trying to find it (betcha never heard that before 😆) Recently I realized that ‘balance’ doesn’t always mean 50/50.
Since people ask me ‘diet questions’ a lot I thought maybe I’d share my experience here.
I’ve tried EVERY plan/diet in my life: high protein/low carb (for me the best), juice cleanses (for me the worst!), vegetarian & vegan (my favorite morally but it never made me feel great physically). Atkins, paleo, Keto, Whole30, intermittent fasting, gluten free, & every “eat oatmeal for breakfast, salad for lunch, & grilled salmon for dinner” diet here... 🤪 I’VE TRIED IT!!! Before I was lucky enough to see that my true love was fitness, I was an actress & I felt that meant I needed to BE SKINNY above all else.
Some of these plans worked (short term) but most of them didn’t. I killed myself trying to do the ‘right thing’ & usually just ended up feeling like a failure.
I finally let go enough to see that there might be a better way. Nowadays here’s what I found works best for my body:
1. Start the day with a 24oz water/lemon/cayenne flush. It hydrates & sets my metabolism up for success (a large mason jar is the perfect size)
2. Focus on the GOOD I’m putting in not what I’m supposed to be keeping out. Tons of leafy greens (cus I truly think most green things are super delicious), colorful veggies, olive oil, nuts, lean proteins (yes even red meat for me sometimes), real unprocessed food & WATER!
3. I allow myself what I love & make sure to ENJOY it. When I don’t see it as a ‘restricted treat’ I crave it less. The self judgement just makes everything worse by increasing stress hormones & blood sugar while depleting adrenals. Please NO MORE GUILT!🙏
4. The most important thing for my sanity is working out. It keeps my mind focused & my body strong. Be active regularly with the ones you love (dogs included❤️🐾) Surround yourself with people that support & celebrate you.
Ultimately it’s a journey. I wish for us all to find food, community & purpose that makes us feel EXCITED TO BE ALIVE...whatever that looks like. For me, that’s balance. 🙌
