Story Time! This is Peter. He's one of my besties. Gracie is scared of him. I know it doesn't look like it but when he comes over she barks and barks and clearly communicates she wants him to go away. Gracie never barks; not at doorbells, delivery guys, or bitty dogs yapping at her face. But every now and then she meets a human (usually on the street so this has nothing to do with her home or guarding) and starts off loving them until she gets a whiff of something and fear kicks in communicated through backing away, barking, and sadly, flinching if the person moves their hands. When Peter met her the first time we tried all sorts of things to ease her anxiety. What worked was putting her in her condo for a minute and when I let her out she decided loved him. This video is from yesterday...the third time she met him. She still barked a little until she went into her condo for a breath but even she looked confused as to why she was barking. Gracie instinctually LOVES everyone. Abusive people taught her fear. Yet she proves time and time again her inherent desire to love is stronger than her fear. Good will always win.
Thank you, Peter, for your patience and kindness. We're lucky to know you. #goodwins #pgracieiswinningatlife
