I like combining pilates with some yoga movements- I can’t say this is a flow as when I see those amazing yogis doing a full flow it just looks seamless but I will keep persevering until one day it’ll flow just as beautifully🤸‍♂️
The movements with your leg are as follows:
1️⃣leg up then knee to same elbow
2️⃣leg up then knee to opposite elbow
3️⃣leg up then slowly kick leg through to opposite side with control ✔️always extend legs upward to its full extension
✔️pull abs right back throughout and exhale when bringing leg inward
❌no sinking into shoulders and no arching in your lower back. Tuck pelvis in at all times scoop abs and bum higher if you find you are arching👍
**video is twice the actual speed so please move slowly and finish your movement correctly with control and not rushing through it***

Throw back to the weekend. Swan dive extension using a roller. The feet should be apart and externally rotated or you will not get the movement in the pelvis and fully extend. Shoulders should stabilise to prevent closing in on your neck. Chin should lift towards sky. Glutes must activate. Moving into rocking practice. Not my comfort zone but a lovely quad stretch to finish. #tbt

▪️Post 2 of 2 ▪️How does Pilates help us to Stretch well?!? 🤔💫 ▪️Continuing from yesterday’s post which looked at opening & effectively stretching the chest & anterior shoulder girdle, today our focus is the hip flexors & hammies!! ✔️
▪️These are tricky areas to stretch well, & even harder to demo well without verbal & tactile cues!! ▪️So I have chosen the fabulous #overball which gives us some leverage over which to stretch & relies on just the mind & body to connect & listen inward.. ✔️ ▪️In yesterday’s post, the focus was to create stability around the joint or frame using the pilates Powerhouse first, as it is exactly this long & strong centre we can effectively stretch away from ✔️ ▪️The other factor was to listen, be in tune with, & mindfully connect with your body as a whole, & this continues as our focus today.. ✔️ ▪️Once the lengthened powerhouse is connected, we can move the lever away (here the extended leg), to a point where we feel a resistance, whilst remaining absolutely stable & Long through spine & Neutral pelvis ✔️ ▪️On the next exhalation, we increase the powerhouse work to provide further stability, to enable us to increase the stretch using opposing energy/pilates opposition, & here the breath literally moves us (tap for volume) 📣✔️💫
▪️This incredible Method can be applied to any part of the body, so long as we are working in proportion to the connected whole, & listening at all times to ensure the powerhouse remains the long & strong centre ✔️ ▪️The overball also provides an extra stability challenge, so only move lever as far as powerhouse allows ✔️ ▪️Do try, & let me know how you go!! ✔️

Instead of always saying « swallow or scoop your belly », « navel to the spine » or « navel in and up », I can say now : « think of Jo mashing your belly » and I’m sure it will work ! .
