And in the seventh year.... counting through seven years with Mr @herd_of_ubuntu with throwbacks to adventures in Southern Africa. 2017 was an awesome adventure. I was surprised with flights for our 2016 anniversary and we headed off in January this year for a three week epic in South Africa (just sneaking in before the little one turned two). Trips with the little man have meant that I've stuck to my well trodden path when we fly west l, just to avoid too many surprises. So we landed in Joburg and spent a night there (jury is still out on whether it's worth the stop over or whether we should just push through but it's always nice to take stock for a moment and enjoy the garden of the place we like to stay at near the airport, spotting mousebirds and being spoilt by the staff). Then on to Durban to our amazing, generous, open hearted, adventurous friends who whisked us away to their game reserve time share. Time to test out an Aussie toddler on a game drive. Success!! Then we jumped around, over to Cape Town, up to an apple farm for an 89th birthday with the family, back east to Howick and the amazing Underberg with friends, in to Durban and then up to Joburg (bizarrely found the names of our Durban friends in the visitors book of our Airbnb! Turns out they are great friends!) and then after all that bouncing we headed north to @pilanesberg_ for some family time at @bakubungbushlodge. As a family with a little one this was the best pick for us - malaria free, kid friendly, game drives included, ability to self drive, close to Sun City... more touristy that we would have liked but you can't have everything! This photo was taken at @pilanesberg_, while I had the toddler on my lap in an open air vehicle. We spotted one lioness under a tree and stopped to watch her. Suddenly we realised that we were absolutely surrounded by a large pride of lions getting ready for a hunt. This was one of two big boys in the group, waiting for the ladies to bring home the beef!
