โœจHOW TO DO PIGEON POSEโœจ
This is one of my favorite poses because it is one of the most effective hip openers. ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿฝ It also stretches the front body, abdomen, groin, and psoas.

Correct โœ…๐Ÿ˜:
โ€ข Arch of foot is flat on the floor (not to the side).
โ€ข Hips are square and level. This starts with your back foot. You can tuck your back toes under to help spiral your thigh down.
โ€ข Thigh spirals down. This will position your hips to the correct level. Your knee should facing the floor, not the side.
โ€ข Shoulders are level, because the hips are level.

Incorrect โŒ๐Ÿ˜:
โ€ข Back foot is laying on it's side. This will throw off the entire pose.
โ€ข Hips are not square or level. Since the back foot is laying on it's side, it is rolling the entire leg in the wrong direction.
โ€ข Thigh is spiraling outwards, causing the knee to facing sideways, and this is also putting your knee at risk.
โ€ข Shoulders are not level, because the hips are not level.

We are so often grateful for people in our lives who have names: friends, family members, coworkers, etc. These are our circles. But our world canโ€™t exist without opening our circles. I am grateful for the woman in Germany who worked at the pool, letting me practice speaking German. I am grateful to the old man in Ethiopia who paid for my bus fare once, out of pure kindness. I am grateful for the children in Uganda who would ask โ€œhow are you?โ€ as I walked to work each morning. So for day 5 I prepared some ways in which you can work on your one-legged pigeon pose foundations and a couple of tips to enter the more advanced king pigeon pose ๐Ÿ‘‘.
.
1) Check my previous post for all the detailed information about a good alignment in this pose. โš ๏ธ Please remember to keep your hips square and not collapsing to the side! โš ๏ธ
.
2) This is a very good way to work on your alignments and preserve your front knee, if you feel some pressure on it (and in that case, please, no shame... step back!! ๐Ÿšซ) it's a 90/90 degree variation of pigeon pose. Place your back leg with thigh and shin at 90ยฐ and do the same with your front one. if your front shin can't be parallel to the edge of your mat don't worry, and just stay there, working on your hips. Keep your feet engaged to avoid knee injuries.

3) Support your torso with your arm, and bend your back leg. Then reach your foot with the other hand and pull it down. Try to keep your hips in line to feel the right stretch on your quad.
.
4) Once you stretched your quad and hip abductor, practice king pigeon. If you still don't have a full flipped grip, you can practice with a strap, like me in the picture. โš ๏ธ This pose could be very intense, so you can first try only with one hand, placing the other on the ground to support you. As in every backbend think about your chest opening up and activate your mula bandha. And... do I have to say it again? ... hips square!! ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿค“

5) A very simple way to compensate the previous backbend is to fold your pigeon pose. See if you can place your elbows on the ground, otherwise help yourself with a block.

Here's how to Perform the Piriformis Stretch with a Twist!

โ˜๏ธFind a table, bench or plyo box. You can also do those on the ground but it is a little harder to perform.
1๏ธโƒฃ Place one leg on the table with the knee bent.
2๏ธโƒฃ The opposite leg is straight.
3๏ธโƒฃ Hinge from the hip.
๐Ÿ‘‰Do not hunch over! Notice my back is fairly straight from head to heel.
4๏ธโƒฃ Place your arms crossed over your shoulders.
5๏ธโƒฃ Rotate the upper body back and forth ๐Ÿ” Repeat on the other side!

I didn't get into this pose immediately. I warmed up for a good 40mins. For about 5 days. What I like best about yoga is that you don't need to be flexible to do yoga, contrary to popular belief. You just need to show up. On your mat. Even if you don't feel like it. For a few minutes, or a few hours. A little bit of dedication goes a long way. If you take the time to stretch in the right places, just 30mins, for a week, I bet you can get into king pigeon pose, too. โค

Post procedure recovery took longer then expected. My back feels much better and although the pain is not completely gone Iโ€™m just so happy to be back on the mat... letting my breath guide me into the final pose of this amazing challenge hosted by Jelena and David. ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜Š Iโ€™ve learn so much. Literally. I๏ธ did Chakrasana for the first time ๐Ÿ˜ƒ I๏ธ know... it was shitty, but I๏ธ did it! And yeah. Iโ€™ve grown. From my weakness. And look at me. Iโ€™m trying Kapo... it might take me my whole lifetime to touch my heels... but as far as Iโ€™m concern, right now, Iโ€™m exactly where I๏ธ should be. Happy ๐Ÿ˜ƒ
