Wrapping into self tonight, craving all the postures I love. Lately I’ve been focused on trying new things, on and off the mat, which is always humbling and exciting. Today I needed comfort, security, and grounding. -
-
I start every movement practice with a self diagnostic check in. It’s a process when one scans the physical, mental and psychological bodies to find what message they have and utilize those messages in a way to begin my practice. -
-
Sometime this process takes on a bigger shape and journaling my thoughts, is my practice. Sometimes, I never end up moving on the mat. While others the messages are sharp, exact and to the point. I can answer those calls, use my body as it’s own medicine cabinet and begin the movement process. -

This is the core, the nucleus, of my practice now a days. We share this process in all of @casa_colibri and I’s Cultivating Creativity Retreats and workshops and will soon be released on our online class platform AuthenticMovements.con 🤗I’m super amped to leave for the jungle in a couple weeks to meet, grow and flow with this amazing group for our Yoga Retreat. But until then, I’ll be home with my family enjoying the holiday season. ❤️🙏🏽-

TOP 5 TIPS TO RECOVER FROM TRAVEL

So 2 🛫flights and 10 🚘car rides in 36 hours had my back feeling a little beat up today. Couple that with more eating out and less water than normal and I wasn't feeling quite at 100% coming into today's workout. This is normal for any travel, but there are a few things I do to get back on track.
.
1. Go to bed an hour early. Just getting a little extra sleep (Half hour in my case. You'll see why.) goes a long way to getting you feeling good.
.
2. Get up 30 minutes early. Travelling tends to leave things on the backburner or piled up. So I get up and start early to knock some of that out, which in turn helps to manage my stress levels throughout the day.
.
3. Get rehydrated. Hydration can affect mood, performance, energy, hunger, and more. Get it in check.
.
4. Up my protein. Eating out makes it hard to get all the protein you really need so I do my best while I'm away and then make up a little bit of the debt once I'm back.
.
5. Get moving. I always try to get a workout in the next day just to move. If things are feeling beat up, like my back was, I do some extra recovery work for it, and I modify training volume, intensity, and exercise selection so that it becomes more restorative than degrading.
.

Back Pain Stretching

📝The QL is one of the pesky muscles that get’s a lot of attention. It oftentimes gets implicated for one sided low back pain.
.
🎁Here’s a few stretches I have found to be helpful to target this area. One note: when there is a strong muscle spasm or reaction going on at the QL, a ton of stretching can sometimes cause irritation and flare up symptoms.
.
🌲Although the presentation for this kind pain is typically asymmetrical, I will still try to have patients work into both sides. They may use slightly different stretches or intensities when going from one side to the other, however.
.

The steps are starting to show more improvement. We’re even going at a faster pace as well as two rounds of walking. It’s hard to tell but surprisingly my left leg was pulling through with almost no assistance.

GOT TIGHT HAMSTRINGS?

So if you've seen any of my hamstring stretches, you may notice that I keep a slight bend in my knee. This is because when you 🔒lock the knee out, you can tension the sciatic nerve before the hamstring. And since the goal is to get a max hamstring stretch, we want to use the approach that lets us sink in the most.↔️
.
So as, @quaddoc demos here, keep a slight bend in the knee. You should feel this in the belly of the muscle. If you feel it behind the knee, that's not an optimal hamstring stretch. Make this small tweak and you'll finally be able to break through those tight hamstrings.
.

🤓I like to observe a slow eccentric lower in scaption when I evaluate shoulders. It's kind of my thing. Or one of them, at least. Shoulder mechanics are my favorite.
.
☑️Check yesterday's winging post if you want more info about the different kinds of winging, their causes, etc. Tomorrow, I'll show some exercises and discuss strategies to improve this.

🙋🏽‍♂️Remember, winging without symptoms isn't always cause for concern. Especially if it's bilateral. But these patients all came to me for a reason, so there were symptoms. I like to use winging as a guide for exercise selection.

Here we have a patient dealing with plantar fasciitis.

She struggles to maintain toe extension and balance with her toes off the ground.
_
Patient currently presents with good passive ROM of the big toe with the ankle at 15 degrees of dorsiflexion, but lack of active extension of all toes.
_
She also claws the floor with her toes when balancing on one foot.
_
Doing single leg deadlifts with the toes off the floor serve us two purposes.
_
1️⃣Work the toes in extension. The next few visits will be focused on developing active range of motion of the great toe.
_
2️⃣Force her to use the intrinsic muscles of her feet versus the more global muscles used with clawing.
_
Make sure you are constantly assessing your patients and are designing your exercises for the INDIVIDUAL in front of you.
_

الام العضلات الحادة بعد ممارسة الرياضة والتمارين , ماهي الاسباب ؟

تعد آلام العضلات واحدة من تلك المشاكل التي تظهر بشكل شائع بعد ممارسة الرياضة ما يصعب الأمر على بعض الأشخاص ويجعلهم يتوقفون عن متابعة التمرين.
وفقاً للكليّة الأمريكية للطب الرياضي ACSM فإن السبب الأول لهذه الحالة هو الضعف العضلي المتأخر والذي يظهر بشدة عند ممارسة التمارين الرياضية. الأطابء يعتقدون أن هذا يحدث نتيجة للتلف المجهري الذي يؤثر على ألياف العضلات ما يجعل العضلات تحاول إصلاح نفسها بنفسها وبالتالي تظهر الآلام.

ويقول ألبرت ماثيني المدرب المعتمد لدى أخصائيي التغذية المسجل في مختبر سوهو سترينغث : “يرسل جسمك خلايا الدم البيضاء والسوائل والمواد المغذية الأخرى للمساعدة في إصلاح العضلات ما يؤدي إلى تورمها والتهابها وبالتالي الشعور بالألم”. و ما يحدث هو جزء من عملية بناء العضلات الجديدة وعادة ما تستمر هذه العملية ما بين 24 حتى 48 ساعة بعد التمارين بينما يستمر الألم لمدة تصل إلى خمسة أيام.

و العلامات التي تظهر غالبًا هي الألم الشديد وغير المحتمل في الأوتار أو الأربطة والذي بدوره يؤثر على المفاصل المقابلة للعضلات لذا عليك توخي الحذر لأنها علامات تنذر بشيء خطير مثل عملية “انحلال الربيدات” وهي حالة نادرة تتسبب في كسر عضلاتك بسرعة والضغط على الكليتين.

ويوضح ” ماثيني: إذا كنت ممن يمارس الرياضة بانتظام فليس بالضرورة أن تعاني من التهاب العضلات الشديد وإذا كان الأمر كذلك فعليك الاستعانة بالرعاية الصحية اللازمة مع التركيز على التغذية و stretching مع أخذ القسط الكافي من النوم .

ويؤكد “كيسي باتن” الطبيب المعتمد ومدير الرعاية الصحية الأولية للطب الرياضي في لوس آنجلوس: “عندما تشعر بهذه الآلآم لمدة شهر بعد ممارسة الرياضة ولا تزول سريعا فهذه الأعراض تدق ناقوس الخطر ما يحتّم عليك إعادة التفكير في نظامك الغذائي أيضاً .

Well my leave of absence semester has officially ended! Personally, this season in my life has taught me a lot about myself and challenged me in the realm of my work/ life balance. It can definitely be challenging as a pre-PT with working hard in school to maintain a high GPA in addition to everything else life has to offer.
I often questioned myself, asking was I capable of entering and being successful in this field when things got rough, but I'm telling you the GRIND is WORTH it. I managed to always keep the big picture of my main goal in perspective throughout my education, and in doing so, I kept up with the grind and with the help of Pre-PT grind (S/O to Chloe Mereno for being an AMAZING mentor) and the other resources they offer, I have been accepted into one of my TOP 3 DPT programs! 🙏🏽 So the next step for me will be return to Azusa Pacific for my final semester as an undergrad, GRADUATE😍, and then start PT school in summer! 😍😍 So as my time as a Pre-PT enters the final chapter, I am just so thankful for all the life lessons undergrad has taught me and being able to use this platform to give you all a shot glimpse of my story.
