what happened yesterday was a devastating setback. This is the largest elimination of protected land in American history all for corporate greed and the destruction of mother earth. as you know i live and breathe for the outdoors and taking care of the environment, i have played in Bear Ears and Grand Staircase numerous times and the thought of it shrinking millions of acres to be turned into to a battlefield of oil, mining, and an industrial wasteland is heartbreaking. take action now, make your voice heard. stop having our land sell to the highest bidder. even if you don't care about these locations, this is just the beginning of the end. #defendyourland #standwithbearsears #nativeland #standwiththenatives #standwithgrandstaircase #protectourland #optoutside #escape #explore #travel #nature #photonojustice

of the 207 acres of gardens, 120 acres are open to the public and are divided into a variety of themes: the Desert Garden, now a century old, is packed with cacti and other succulents; the Shakespeare Garden evokes a kind of Englishness rarely seen in England these days; the Children's Garden is a delightful mix of educational features and entertaining diversions; and the Japanese garden is quietly, unassumingly magical. Most recent is the Chinese-themed Garden of Flowing Fragrance, a delicate environment built in part by Chinese artisans. Inside the library contains vast rare collections, among them a Gutenberg Bible and the earliest known edition of Chaucer's The Canterbury Tales. The art collection is almost as notable as the library's collection. Built in 1910, the main house is home to a very impressive collection of British art, which includes Gainsborough's The Blue Boy alongside works by Blake, Reynolds and Turner. #huntingtongardens #garden #nature #escape #explore #sundayfunday #naturephotography #exploretocreate #photonojustice #optoutside

Karnak Temple Sacred Lake is the largest of its kind and was dug by Tuthmosis III (1473-1458 BC). It measures 393 feet (120m) by 252 feet (77m) and is lined with stone wall and has stairways descending into the water. The lake was used by the priests for ritual washing and ritual navigation. It was also home to the sacred geese of Amun (the goose being another symbol of Amun) and was a symbol of the primeval waters from which life arose in the ancient Egyptian’s idea of creation. #egypt #karnaktemple #ancientegypt #travel #traveltheworld #travelegypt #escape #explore #exploretocreate #natgeo #natgeotravel #photonojustice #historylesson #takemeback

While sailing down the Nile, merchants will tie up along side the ship and sell their products to the passengers on board. They will throw scarfs, jellabiyas, and other items to the top deck of the ship, hoping that someone will purchase. "And now listen carefully. You in others-this is your soul. This is what you are. This is what your consciousness has breathed and lived on and enjoyed throughout your life-your soul, your immortality, your life in others. And what now? You have always been in others and you will remain in others. And what does it matter to you if later on that is called your memory? This will be you-the you that enters the future and becomes a part of it." - Dr. Zhivago, Boris Pasternak #boatlife #ocean #peaceful #quaint #calm #nature #naturephotography #thehideout #photonojustice #escape #explore #horizonlife

Adventuring in the valley of fire state park. Prehistoric users of the Valley of Fire included the Ancient Pueblo Peoples, also known as the Anasazi, who were farmers from the nearby fertile Moapa Valley. Their approximate span of occupation has been dated from 300 BC to 1150 AD. Their visits probably involved hunting, food gathering, and religious ceremonies, although scarcity of water would have limited their stay. #valleyoffire #travel #travelphotography #escape #explore #adventure #adventurer #traveler #camping #hiking #exploretocreate #explorer #photonojustice #nevada

The Church of the Holy Saviour in Chora was originally built as part of a monastery complex outside the walls of Constantinople, to the south of the Golden Horn. The original church on this site was built in the early 4th century, and stood outside of the 4th century walls of Constantine the Great. However, when Theodosius II built his formidable land walls in 413–414 #chorachurch #istanbul #turkey #escape #explore #travel #traveltheworld #adventure #photonojustice #church

Figured it was fitting to post my photo of the Orient Express with the upcoming release of the movie (based off of the Agatha Christie novel). The Orient Express was a long-distance passenger train service created in 1883 by Compagnie Internationale des Wagons-Lits. Although the original Orient Express was simply a normal international railway service, the name became synonymous with intrigue and luxury travel. The two city names most prominently associated with the Orient Express are Paris and Constantinople (Istanbul), the original endpoints of the timetabled service. #orientexpress #istanbul #turkey #travel #travelphotography #adventure #explorer #escape #explore #photonojustice

Medusa was a monster, a Gorgon, generally described as a winged human female with living venomous snakes in place of hair. Gazers upon her hideous face would turn to stone. Most sources describe her as the daughter of Phorcys and Ceto, though the author Hyginus makes her the daughter of Gorgon and Ceto. According to Hesiod and Aeschylus, she lived and died on an island named Sarpedon, somewhere near Cisthene. #istanbul #turkey #earthpix #medusa #bascilicacistern #photonojustice #escape #explore #travel #traveltheworld #photonojustice

Built in the sixth century by the Byzantine emperor Justinian as a place to store fresh water for his palace and nearby buildings, the reservoir was rediscovered a thousand years later when a scholar named Petrus Gyllius visited what was then Constantinople. The front face of the cylindrical pedestal on which the scarab rests has been flattened to form a stela, and is carved entirely in sunk relief. On it, the kneeling king makes an offering of two nu vessels to Atum of Heliopolis. The solar disk set between the two extended wings that crown the text forms part of the name of Nebmaatre that is inscribed in the vertical axis of this stela. The text carved on the side of the stela explicitly states that it concerns "Khepri who rises from the earth". The scarab beetle statue which has a myth attached to it concerning it being a wishing status. The idea is to walk around the statue seven times in an anti-clockwise direction and your wish will come true. #egypt #ancientegypt #travel #travelphotography #adventure #explore #traveltheworld #photonojustice #scarab
