Rio is an epileptic chihuahua we first fostered from the Española Animal Shelter and then adopted after Gretchen, a DVM for the shelter diagnosed his condition and we realized he needed to be on twice daily meds to prevent seizures. He has become the most feisty and beloved member of our family. When Gretchen learned that Jane Bernard Photography was doing a photo shoot of chihuahuas with their owners to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Española Valley Humane Society, she signed me up. A photo exhibit by Jane Bernard entitled "Man's Best Amigo" premiered on Father's Day at the Española Animal Shelter this summer. Jane is a highly talented photographer who has donated a significant amount of her time and talent to the Española Valley Humane Society and I thank her for capturing Rio and I.
