Owning It #NoMoreLimits
Dear MC Rani,
When I was a teenager, periods were my biggest nightmare. I couldn’t tell anyone how embarrassed I was of my body. And it was affecting my whole life.
The thought of a visible blood stain on my school uniform would give me sleepless nights. I’d dread school trips and picnics and prayed for clean toilets to change in.
And sitting in a school bus with dark seats was a rare treat. I was tired of living in constant fear. No one understood what I was going through.
Or so I thought.
The day you walked on stage at our local auditorium, I wasn’t in the mood for stand-up comedy. But then, in front of hundreds of people, you spoke about period cramps, secretly disposing used pads, accidentally bleeding through jeans in front of an audience and having awkward period talks with your parents. Each story was funnier than the last. And by the end of it, my sides were aching with laughter, but all my pain had disappeared.
In that one hour, you showed me a world with no more limits. A world where I wasn’t alone and where having periods was as natural as breathing. But most of all, you showed me that everything was going to be alright. Ever since that day, periods don’t worry me. They only remind me of your show. And that always makes me smile.
With love and laughter,
