It's cold outside ❄️ so today I decided to relax and take care of my body 🌟 Dedicating a day to stretching the body should be law. Unfortunately we are not used to it and we give little importance to it and we should keep in mind that flexible muscles are stronger and more endurable ones. After a few intense weeks of races, hard training and a hard @ninjawarrior casting I definitely won it. 👌🏽 Try this pose to stretch your hips and adductors, and if you want to go a little bit further try to push your body weight slightly towards and feel what happens 😉 Do not forget to keep your abs activated (belly button inside), straight back and the shoulders activated backwards 🔥

Time to break out the running gear again and get back in marathon training. I found out the other day that I’m accepted to run the Chicago Marathon!! 🙌
A year ago I decided to run the Boston Marathon. It was one of those things where I had been thinking it would be cool to run a marathon, then all of a sudden I was committed. I always knew I could do it though, I never had a doubt. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t hard. Because it was. But when I commit to something I don’t see any other option; my mind is made and it’s going to happen. During training I got injured and had to stop running. This meant that when race day came I was under-prepared. I still knew I would cross the finish line and I did. I ran the whole time and was also in pain the whole time. But I did it!
With my second marathon I’m determined to be better prepared. I’m competitive, so of course I have a time in mind I want to finish, but my main goal is to feel good. Which means training starts earlier for me to give my body more prep time. And as I tell my runners in class—I’m going to stay focused, put one foot in front of the other, and breath.

Imma be real. I feel like I haven’t been real in a while. This week was my first full week back after being sick for three weeks (which is hard in itself) and it has been a struggle.
Since the summer I have been focused on muscle gain. I’ve seen leanness fade away, I’ve had days where I’ve felt less than good about myself, and days when I want to give up and just go back to shredzville. But I keep telling myself it’s a journey. It’s a daily process and it’s not supposed to be easy, it’s supposed to be challenging. Not every goal has a straight line and sometimes it’s a matter of just sticking to your “guns” and following through with your plans.

Today I knew I had limited time. I sat and looked at my workout and debated switching from strength to cardio. I debated taking a rest day. I switched back to strength. I had less time. And finally I just said screw it, I’ll get as far as I get and that will be enough. And I did it (without the sprint finisher) and it may not have been my best lift of life but it was successful because I did it. Sometimes we’ve just got to show up and allow ourselves to be in whatever moment we are. Especially when we are tired or sore.

Allow yourselves the freedom to work with what you’ve got, no matter what your “schedule” may say. Listen to that body. Well, I didn’t think I’d find this one, but it couldn’t have turned up at a more perfect time. The struggle of body image, with anyone, is hard. We make fun of it. We run from it, hide from it, and we’ve all made excuses for it.

This was a commercial ad from my first training job. I was unhealthy in many ways, but conditioned to think this is what ‘women’ wanted to look like. I hated where I had taken myself and the lengths I took to get there. Who eats under 900 calories a day, workouts out for countless hours, and feels good about themselves?
Not a healthy person, and not any good trainer!
Looking in the mirror now, I don’t recognize the girl in this picture. I remember her, and thank her for finding her strength. Every BODY is different, and being strong is not a ‘one size fits all’ kind of deal. It’s a personal journey with lots of ups and downs. But, I’ve come to realize that although I may not be perfect, parts of me are absolutely incredible 💕💪🏼

I wasn’t expecting to fall in love with lifting, but I did. I loved tracking my strength increases. It didn’t take long, however, to see that most of the other girls who seemed to love lifting were primarily doing it to change & manipulate their bodies... and I didn’t love that. 🙅🏻‍♀️ I was very, very resistant to that. And THAT is what female body building seemed to represent: body reducing, not body building.

I found Meg in a magazine.
She said anyone who wanted to be stronger could be her Strong Strong Friend, and it didn’t matter how strong you were. She said to check out her YouTube channel. I did. I remember hearing her say, “the world is trying to make you less of you, but be more of you,” and I was hooked.

I wanted to be stronger! I was sick of being small and feeling like I had to be small to be cute and sick of feeling like I had to be cute and quiet to be worthy! F all that!! 🙅🏻‍♀️🙅🏻‍♀️ I reached out to her on my birthday last year and purchased my very first 12 week block powerlifting program. .

I almost didn’t reach out.
Even though I’d been “lifting heavy,” (what I thought then, yes, insert mega eye roll) I felt like her weakest client. She taught me that if I wanted to be stronger, I had to start with the strength I had. I just had to get a barbell in my hands.

Her mission is to get more barbells in the hands of ladies, and I am for that 💯 Getting a barbell in my hands changed the trajectory of my life for the better. Getting stronger has made me mentally stronger. It’s made me more fun & confident. It’s made me great friends, and I fully believe it’ll continue to make me great friends, especially as more women become inspired to pick up a barbell. .

Change is SO hard. Especially when you have seen the lowest low. It seems damn near impossible to get out. It doesn’t help when people continue to attach you to your past transgressions and underestimate your worth and capabilities. But it is also,

For those struggling, hang on. Little by little you can rebuild a more solid foundation and life. It is by nooooo means easy. You will be tried and judged every day. But YOU are the one who ultimately gets to decide your sentence. Learn to forgive yourself. Move on.

My fitness journey hasn’t been linear. On this path, I have had many ups & downs, twists & turns, and many different “destinations.” I haven’t always been athletic and it doesn’t come easy for me. Until I was 16, I ate boxes of twinkies at a time, snuck food, saved up money for fast food, and didn’t exercise. Every mile run day (Wednesday’s) I came up with a different excuse as to why I couldn’t participate and PE was the only class I didn’t get an A in; I actually got a D. I was made fun of every single day and excluded myself from anything social out of fear of rejection. I didn’t have any friends. It wasn’t until 10th grade that I knew I needed to make a change because my doctor told me I was on a dangerous path “in the red zone.” 205 lbs at 5’4. I was sick of my life, often times I wished I was never born. I joined cheer and couldn’t fit a uniform. I became obsessive with running, workout videos &bb.com articles. Fitness became my outlet from an abusive relationship in my life, my way out of rejection, my opportunity to change the direction of my path. Over the years it continues to remain my outlet and always reminds me that YOU have the opportunity to change YOUR life. Now, I’ve learned to stay on this path for myself, not to please anyone, not to gain anyone’s approval but my own ❣️
