TIME (@time) Person of the Year 2017 goes to the Silence Breakers, a group of men and women who spoke out against sexual assault and harassment.
A movement started in October 2017, when actress Ashley Judd went on to talk about Harvey Weinstein---a powerful executive in Hollywood industry---and his unwelcomed sexual advances towards women. The world listened. Empowered by Judd, Rose McGowan along with other female celebrities and women everywhere, started to speak out about sexual injustice and mistreatment they experienced.
Hashtag #MeToo began to revive and used all over the world. Providing women the solidarity, strength, and reassurance, to share their stories.
These silence breakers have started a revolution, gathering strength by the day, and in the past two months alone, their collective burst has spurred immediate and shocking results: nearly every day, prominent authoritative figures from different industries have faced sanctions for their misconducts.
More people are standing up for themselves and these rising voices are reminding the world that sexual assault and harassment, is a serious violation and should not be tolerated. Check out the full article on TIME.com
