I can hear the stream going over the rocks and the birds chirping when I look at this photo. Pure serenity 🍃#nature #stream #underthetreecover #intothewoods #naturewalks #peoplewhoadventure #peoplewhohike #peoplewhooutdoor #treepornnature #summer #oneofmymanytrails #trails #alltrails

I attempted this trail 3 times. The first time I quickly began to suffer from altitude sickness during the rapid elevation gain. I hike all the time in very high places, but this was a first for me. J always shows some slight signs of altitude sickness on high hikes and drives but his lungs are very small compared to your average Joe so he expects it and knows what he has to do to reverse those symptoms. First, I became very sleepy very fast. I remember telling J I wanted to lay down and take a nap on the very rocky trail. That was the first sign and he begged me to go back. Have you heard southern women are stubborn? Well I am. 😂 So I didn't listen when J begged me to turn around. Second, I got very lightheaded and dizzy where I thought I might pass out or lose my balance and fall. Again, J begged me to turn around. I didn't. Finally, the headache kicked in. I don't get migraines but I imagine this is what they feel like. Pounding, stabbing pains, light and sound made it worse. J was no longer asking, he told me we were turning around now. He drug me down the mountain. When we got home I slept for 14 hours! That was my first encounter with altitude sickness and it's no joke. Remember if you begin to feel any of these symptoms the only way to make them go away is to decrease your altitude (hike down).... Oh and if you are wondering the second time I attempted this hike I was not feeling it at all and just gave up less than a mile in, went home and watched Netflix, if I'm being completely honest! But the third time I had my mind on the money and the money on my mind. I made it to the top of this mountain and back down the other side. I followed a creek off trail to this beautiful hidden gem! We were lucky enough not to see a single soul the entire hike, which is why I will not be sharing this location. ✌💚 Happy Hiking! #sheshredscocrew #sheshreds

Sunset on the beach in Mexico last Tuesday in front of Escobar's house... every single sunset was pastel colored like this!!! This is one of my few cell phone photos from the trip because of breaking my phone but I have sent it to a data recovery service and am crossing my fingers they can save my memories!!

The last time I went on this trail was about four years ago, where I almost had a near death experience. After we had hiked to the cave and were climbing down, someone above me accidentally dislodged a rock roughly the size of my head, which came rolling down the rock wall. I was frozen in place because I was climbing down the steeper section of the trail and didn’t know where the rock was headed- in my path? To the side of me? I remember it felt like an eternity watching the rock roll down, building more and more momentum, until it finally became clear that I was going to get hit and all I could do was brace myself for whatever kind of impact it would be. I instinctively reached out to push the rock away (what else could I do 😂😂) only to have it rip several nails off my right hand and scratch up the inside of my leg. I didn’t notice this until maybe a minute later though because I was just so relieved that I was still there, hanging on to the wall, intact, and that the rock hadn’t sent me flying off the side of the mountain. I was never really scared to return after this happened but for some reason I just didn’t, until this day. It was @allanhiga’s first time venturing here and we spent the time talking about random things like podcasts, Lights, and NASCAR- things I’m not even into but now have a teeny tiny appreciation for. Oh, and also a new (and better) memory of this trail. 😌

For lack of better words, shit’s about to get real! Tomorrow I’m heading to #MountBaker for my first ever glacier #climb! I’ve battled a lot of self doubt lately, but I’ve trained hard and I know I can do this! This has been my dream for a while now, and it’s crazy to think that tomorrow I finally get to make my dream a reality. Hopefully my next post will be pictures of me at the summit. Stay tuned! #osat #climbon

Cause ya’ll know I can’t go more than a few days without posting something horse related.

Welcome to Laguna Hedionda, so called because of the smell 🙊. To be honest, it was far better than inhaling petrol fumes 😂. These clever flamingos have filters in their beaks and have adapted to drink slightly toxic water. We've gone from seeing them in tropical Cuba to freezing temperatures high up in the mountains (yes, part of that lake is frozen). .

The day cleared up quite nicely as I worked my way up the glacier, then through a steep chute, struggling to gain elevation and painfully aware of how slow I was being. As I topped out of the chute and reached the ridge I was finally faced with the last stretch to the summit (3rd pic). It's amazing how far I had come and feeling like I should be so close only to see that daunting view! That final 500 feet of incredibly steep snow might as well have been 2,000 to me, but the day had again become stunningly beautiful and I was in paradise, so I just had to keep putting one foot in front of the other.

Continuing my Gannett story (sorry about the few days break)...Picture #1: It was a beautiful day but I was starting to feel the effects of the distance and knew I was running out of time as I made my way up to the Bonney Pass summit, with a very legitimate fear that I'd be turned back at the exact same spot as last year. As I summited the pass and transitioned to ski down the other side, the clouds rushed in (picture #2). I was willing to take a gamble on them because: 1. I knew if they blocked the sun out it'd be a huge help keeping the snow from getting way too mushy, and 2. I knew it'd be several hours still before I was summiting and they didn't look like they would hang around all day.
As I finished my ski down to the base of Gannett, it started snowing and got very windy! Fortunately I packed everything I needed for these conditions and once I was done skiing, I got all bundled up and knew I just had to keep climbing...
