Partnered up with a really dope nonprofit and the DC Government to teach a beginners course on Government Contracting to these gentleman. The Aspire program provides entrepreneurial training to previously incarcerated returning citizens who are interested in starting their own fully functioning businesses.
In order to be accepted into this program attendees have to graduate from another program where they attended mandatory classes. One attendee has a business that offers financial literacy services to people in the DC community who may not be familiar with why financial literacy is vital.
Another came up with the idea to start a business that provides transportation services that target areas of DC often overlooked (smart). Additionally there’s a caterer who is a member of this program that currently has a catering contract with a DC Government agency.
These men were intelligent, asked great questions, and are all currently working to grow their businesses. I was so happy to meet them and share information with them about proposal submission and different types of Government contracts they could compete for. What I loved was that all of them were not only passionate about their ideas, they are also actively doing a lot of work to execute and scale their businesses to new heights!
