When you come from a country where the most dangerous thing on a hike is cutty grass, this experience was both amazing and pee leakingly terrifying. I studied the park pamphlets on what to do if you see one of the many scary animals that live here. Do you think i could remember if i should run, stand still, make myself big, small, yell, or pee my pants?? Nope! So lodgic had to take over. I was already struggling to get up this super steep path so running was quickly eliminated. And Pirate can run much faster than me, so I'd still lose. Not one other hiker was on this path that morning, so getting saved was also out. Lodgic it was: he had obviously been following us for a while and although didn't need as many stops as i did (it's 9000ft up, low O2 right) his pace was much slower than ours. I'm no expert at bear facial expressions, but Pirate and i agreed that he didn't seem very interested in us and was probably using the path because it is a path. As he was still moving towards us, we decided we would just walk faster up the track. I didn't need to have any more breaks up the path after that.... .
