As a massage therapist/bodyworker/Gyrotonic teacher I have to open my shoulders,chest and thoracic spine daily after work. Take the pressure off and elongate.
This stretch works well for the entire back line -my hamstrings need it too!

If you LOVE doing push ups like me then chances are you probably have tight pecs most of the time! Here’s a great way to get an intense stretch in them! Lay down flat and put your arms out like your making a field goal post. Then keeping one shoulder on the ground, push up and rotate, trying to twist your body up towards the ceiling. With the side that is being stretched you also want to try and pull that arm back as much as possible which is why you see my hand coming off the ground. Give this a try and see how loose you feel! I’m a pretty active person, but still spend more time than I’d like sitting behind my laptop. Be it writing blog posts or researching or reading/studying for continuing education credits-all good stuff yes, but still more sitting than I like.
I find this Pec stretch really helpful if I’ve been typing away for a while. Any door way or corner wall is perfect.
Things to consider in the stretch. ➡️ Place scapula in a neutral placement on the ribs. This should bring it into lying flat or mostly flat on your posterior rib cage. ➡️ Stand stall in good posture. ➡️ Drab rib cage into a bit of depression via activating your abs. This ensure you don’t flare them or arch your back as you turn into the stretch. ➡️ Turn your body away from where your forearm is placed on the wall. Turn with feet and whole body. Make sure not to twist just with upper body into this stretch. ➡️ Hold for about 5 breath cycles. ➡️ And enjoy. 🙂

Band pull aparts!! I love this exercise for so many reasons! For maximum affect when doing this exercise, point your arms out and angle your arms up to get more of a stretch in your pecs! The elevation of your arms will also help strengthen a muscle called your serratus anterior which will help keep your shoulder blades in place and keep your shoulders from rounding! I like to do this exercise every day to help with my posture and strengthen muscles that I would otherwise not normally hit! Give these a shot and I promise you will feel great after doing them! Do you sit at a desk most of your day? Are your shoulders rounded forward? Do you have neck pain, upper back pain or tension headaches..

If so, this stretch is FOR YOU!.

I like to start with my arm bent and slightly above 90 degrees, but feel free to try different angles to find the tight areas and stretch them all out! Hold the stretch for 30-60 seconds, making sure to breathe using your diaphragm..

☯️Little clip here of me first working doing some shoulder rotations in side position which is a lovely way of increasing mobility, loosening all the muscles around the shoulders, thinning out the synovial fluid and retraining the nervous system so it knows it's safe and can move this way again.

☯️Followed by an epic stretch that I forgot about untill the other week when Alena from @handsandhearttherapy did it on me. Fantastic for opening the chest feels like it hits both pec major and minor but also stretches the shoulders, lats and helps release the spine.

Pec stretch for rounded shoulders! • stand approximately two feet back from the corner of the room, facing the corner
•Hands are placed on each wall with elbows below shoulder height •Lean as far in as possible without pain
•Hold the stretch for about 30 seconds to a minute

Posture challenge! The pec stretch and back pinches are great exercises to help with rounded shoulders. Standing next to a corner place your forearm flat on the corner. Take a step out with the inside leg, maintain a tall posture keeping shoulders squared. Hold the stretch felt in the front of your chest for 15 seconds 3 times. Swipe right for back pinches! Begin back pinches by pointing your sternum up to the ceiling (chest out shoulders back). Palms facing up, rotate hands out and squeeze the bottom of your shoulder blades together. Hold the squeeze 2 seconds for 15 reps, perform 2 sets.
