.
CHEST (PECTORAL) STRETCH .
So you know I talk about the shoulders A LOT and the lats and the hips. But today we’re going to be looking at the pecs (chest) muscles. This is probably the leading cause to your bad posture. .
How? When you spend 6-8 hours on a computer at work or 2 plus home too spend hunched over scrolling through instagram, you’re pec minor (a muscle in your chest) are relaxing, which like all muscle when they spend a lot of time in a relax shortened position they will adapt to that shape and length, we call it adaptive shortening.
.
So use this stretch everyday. Karate chop the wall (not literally) them back from the wall, twist the body way from the wall and slightly push the elbow forward. Keep your shoulders down and hold for 30 plus seconds each side.

ARE YOU MAKING THIS MISTAKE WHEN YOU TRY TO STRETCH YOUR PEC?⠀ - by @championptp
-⠀
🔥In this video, @championptp coach @kieferlammi identifies a common flaw we see when people try to stretch their pecs and an easy fix to improve it.⠀
.⠀
🔥Often, we see people grab onto a wall or a rig and crank their arm behind them in order to try and feel a stretch in their pec. While you might feel a stretch there, the chances are you’re also putting a lot of stress on the structures at the front of your shoulder and while that might feel good in the moment, it could be causing more harm than good. ⠀
.⠀
🔥A quick fix that we like to implement is using a bent arm so you have a bit of a shorter level, slightly packing the shoulder to keep the head of your humerus from gliding forward, and gently leaning your chest forward to get the desired stretch in the pec. ⠀

Looking to open up that pec? ⭐️ Save this passive stretch for the end of your next chest/shoulder day
🔹Lay on the edge of a bench and focus on slow rotation along your shoulder.
🔹 Focus on internal and external rotation by rotating your thumb from a hitchhiker position, to thumbs down, to thumbs up.
🔹Repeat for 5-10 reps per side while breathing.

@ethanduda is known for his breaking ball, and with good reason, but it would behoove me to harp on that in his training. He came to us to get back on track, his body had failed him. He developed massive knots in his pec (found in his mobility screen) and was sitting a little low on the velo list (86 last summer, mostly 79/80 this spring) and didn’t know why. We used manual therapy, as well as plyo balls and weighted balls to get his pec to stretch so he could get his arm to lay back again and boom he’s back up to 85 (earlier in this pen) with lots of room to now safely train for more. But before he gets shutdown we’re gonna work on developing his change up and cutter. In this video you can see the progress. His change up became a legit pitch for him this summer, and this cutter will be a major weapon for him as time goes on once we refine the release to be consistent and true. We got a long ways to go but this young man has the entire world in front of him. He’s healthy and ready to build his speed and arsenal up before he heads off to college next spring. 2019 is gonna be a fantastic year for him! #pitchdesign #pitchtracker #pecstretch @saucebaseball

So often, many a yoga stretch can seem like an utter face plant....but UNLIKE a face plant, it feels SOOOOO goood. #puppyposevariation

TRUTH: SMALL THINGS MATTER!!! I don't say that because I am ONLY 5'5" (165 cm for my METRIC FRIENDS). No, I say this because when we talk about the muscles that most commonly lead to PAIN & INJURIES, we are talking about the muscles that most people forget about.

TRUTH: Postural muscles are a different breed of muscle. There job is almost to be like the glue that hold's us together.

SAD TRUTH: When we train with BIG MOVEMENTS they easily get lost and neighboring muscles TAKE OVER. We call this synergistic dominance and it is NOT GOOD if we want to avoid pain. "SOOOOOOOO......" This video is a quick sample of my newest release, "A TRAINING MANUAL FOR CORRECTING WEAK LINKS." In this guide you will not only LEARN the 11 most forgotten muscles but you will also all of the progressions to activate and strengthen them AND the correct drills to "shut off" the overactive muscles that prevent them from working.

YES....you will need to work.
NO......it won't always but easy.

My favorite exercise to do❗️this is a chest opener exercise done on a long foam roller...all you have to do is lay there. This is great if you have been hunched over all day holding a heavy baby 🤱🏻👶🏻 make sure your head and tailbone are resting on the foam roller. I have been doing this almost every day for 5 minutes! #postpartumtips #womenshealth #postpartumjourney #cheststretch #foamroller #pospartum #posture #pecstretch

+ A N G E L S + Breastfeeding, baby wearing and lifting babies day and night can pull our shoulders forward which can impact our breathing, aggravate tension in our shoulders and neck and tighten our pecs.
.
This is is a combined stretch and exercise which relieves tension and feels fantastic. You can do this in your lounge or even in bed or against a wall.
.
And it’s not just for Mums! It’ll benefit anyone who sits at a desk too 🙇🏻‍♀️🙇🏽‍♂️
.
Try this out and let us know how you feel.

Stretch with me! 🤗
.
Rounded shoulders? Desk job? Tight chest? 🤔
.
Pec stretches are where it's at. I love this stretch, simple and effective. Tight pecs pull your shoulders forward and can create bad posture habits. Doing this stretch helps draw the shoulders back into a more neutral position and can help decrease neck tension. 👍 Yes please!!
.
I like holding it for 30secs to 1min each side. I increase the stretch SLOWLY whenever I feel my muscles relax into it. It is important not to force the stretch. Gentle and slow is much more effective. You should feel it at the front of the chest/shoulder. If you feel numbness or tingling in the arm, stop and readjust your position. 😁

FST Friday: PNF Stretching!
⚡️Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) Stretching is an advanced stretching technique commonly used during an FST session.
💥PNF Stretching uses the muscles natural reflexes to get a deeper stretch.
🔥A brief isometric contraction triggers a stretch reflex in the muscle, which allows it to comfortably move into a deeper range of motion than it would with static or dynamic stretching.
🙌FST uses PNF, traction, circumduction & other tricks to give your body the best and most comfortable stretch possible!
👆This video shows PNF Stretching in two stretches: Pec Minor & Lat, two muscles that could affect breathing/rib cage expansion & cause shoulder issues.
📲Have you ever tried PNF Stretching? Let me know! If not, it’s time for a #RecoveryDay!

Regrann from @dr.jacob.harden - HOW YOUR LOW BACK COMPENSATES FOR YOUR SHOULDER
.
Let's talk about "compensation" in movement. It's kind of a 🐝buzz word, but do you really know what it means or why they happen?
.
Compensation is simply the route your body takes to perform a movement when your desired option isn't available. Stay with me. I'm going to explain.
.
Let's take your pecs for example. If your pecs are super tight and you can't get great overhead motion, what route will your body take to get there?🤔 Usually, it's by hyperextending the low back. That probably isn't too big of an issue in your day to day activities, but it could lead to some low back irritation if that pattern carries over to a higher stress situation like say, overhead press, or pitching, or thrusters.🏋️‍♀️
.
Low stress situations allow for a lot of variability, but when you add speed and load to a situation, you need to shift your movement to more optimal patterns and minimize those compensations. That's why it's so important to have both good mobility and control. So that you give yourself options.
.
So for tonight's pec stretch, (which I'm confident in saying will be the best pec stretch of your life) the priority is fighting that compensation pattern.👊 Work on tucking your ribs down and isolating out that pec. You'll get the benefit of better mobility and awareness of your core position.
.
Tag a friend with tight pecs and share the wealth!

👩🏼💪🏼GIRLS HAVE PECS TOO💪🏼👩🏼

My beautiful wife stepped in to help me show you two very simple stretches that you can use to stretch the two different muscles that you know of as your chest!

In the first set of pictures, Lacey is demonstrating a stretch for the pectoralis major (this muscle makes up the bulk of what you think of as your pec muscle). If you remember the biceps stretch I posted a while back, this is very similar! Find you a wall, and put your elbow against the wall at the height of your shoulder. Step through with your leg closest to the wall, and sink forward into the stretch. Be cognizant of what you are trying to stretch! This is a great alternative to the boring old doorway stretch. 🚪

In the second set of pictures, Lacey is demonstrating a stretch for the pectoralis minor (this muscle sits behind the pectoralis major). Because of the different insertions of the two different muscles, getting them to their respective most lengthened positions is a little different. So, perform the same stretch, but for pec minor, raise your elbow above the height of your shoulder, and sink forward AND down into the stretch. Hold these stretches for 30 seconds each side!

Thanks @josephtillman for the request! If you have a topic you would like covered, such as a stretch, exercise, or anything else, message me and let me know, and I will do my best to help!💥

Better Function ➡️ Better Pecs

✨let’s talk about pecs, baybeee✨
Have you stretched yours lately?? If not, you better check yoself! Our pecs are sneaky little monsters, often turning on without our permission, pulling our shoulders forward and enforcing the ever present ‘hunch’ posture that is plaguing our planet 🌏🌍🌎 If you need some resistance assistance, try this with one yellow on the reformer. #hurtssogood #pecstretch #pilatesreformer #pilateslovers
