Last weekend, religious leaders met hate with love in Charlottesville. They stood arm-in-arm, rooted in faith. They sang and chanted “Love has already won” to drown out the Nazi chants of “blood and soil.”
.
@lisasharper, a writer and religious leader of color, even worked toward healing and reconciliation while she was there. As she stood near an armed white supremacist, she tried to speak with him several times, but got no response.
.
As she was leaving, she said to him, “I just want you to know that we love you.” His face softened, he hesitated, and then he responded, “I love you, too.”
.
This is the power of love anyway. This is the power of nonviolence. This is the power of faith and relationship. This is the power of sticking to your values rather than your guns.
.
This weekend, there will be 9 more hate-fueled rallies around the country. Here's how you can push back hate with love, no matter where you live:
.
If you live near a rally and are trained in nonviolence, you could consider attending a counter protest or going to offer support to counter-protestors from a safe distance. Keep in mind that these protests can be extremely dangerous. If you go, take every precaution and understand the risk you are taking.
.
If you can't, or don't want to attend a rally, there are plenty of other ways to wage peace:
.
- Organize (or join) a solidarity rally in your town
- Organize a prayer event during the rallies to pray for safety, peace, healing, reconciliation, and justice.
- Talk about what’s happening with your friends and family, at your social events this weekend, and around the dinner table.
- Follow the rallies on the news and social media and make your stance clear while refusing to engage in violent rhetoric.

waverly + nicole || waves (my cover)

i wanted to incorporate my two A* music grades into this account somehow and a few people suggested that i cover a song and then edit to it, so that's exactly what i did. i'm so nervous for y'all to hear this because i know my voice isn't all that great but music is such a massive part of my life and i'm always singing so i thought; why not share it!

also, i've spent at least 8 hours preparing for this and making it today so please don't be too harsh:'(

This photo I took while canoeing at sunrise on Lake Louise evokes for me this message from Nelson Mandela: "May your choices reflect your hopes not your fears."
.
Become deeply aware my loves that you have a choice before you in every moment.
.
May your choices reflect your hopes. 💙
