What did @benclymer learn from reading @johnreardon570's interview of #patekphilippemuseum curator Dr. Peter Friess? A lot, but one thing that stuck out was they they've just acquired what is likely the first perpetual watch in history. And after @jackjforster did some digging - we found out it sold for just $79,000, or less than what PP charges for any of their perpetuals. This fascinating story is now on HODINKEE.
Unique 1894 pink gold Patek Philippe pocket watch with 24 hour and 5 minute repeating, perpetual calendar, and chronograph. This 24hr dial preceded all early 20th century Patek time only Chronometro Gondolo pocket watch dials of similar design. #artofpatekphilippe#patekphilippemuseum#watcharts
These little machines of wonders that sit on our wrists.
And I am not talking about the ones that are powered by the electricity.
It's wonderful to think how human has learnt to stock energy through physical deformation of the materials and build these tiny mechanisms to release it gradually, to measure the time, with added complications along the way.
This is the first wrist watch in the world, made by Patek Phillippe in 1868.
