Forty eight hours in New York with this wild card: two late nights out with the grown ups, big glasses of wine for me and tall Shirley Temples for her, one boisterous baby shower on the 25th floor with hugs and high fives and short skirts and tall boots, packages of baby blankets, mini-elephants, yawning lions and tiny socks, then whirling snow, french toast brunch, cake, bed-jumping and...very little sleep. What a precious time celebrating my nephew-coming-soon and his parents...and feeling extra aware of how long has passed since my babies came and we showered them in similar ways. No more nursing pillows in our house, and that smell of sleeping milk-ful baby is long gone from my radar but remains deeply lodged within my sensory memory bank. Here’s to passing the torch.
