It's not too late, and your definitely not to old 💜
I once met a man named Odie. Odie was 70 years old when I met him. He had been married, but his wife had past away. He had children, but his children were grown up with children of their own and they had moved away. He was retired after a long career and money was not a concern of his.
I met Odie when he was about 6 months into his sobriety at the age of 70 years old.
He could have easily kept his drinking career alive for the last years of his life. He lived alone, was financially secure and could have remained comfortably numb until the day he died.
He did not though, for some reason only known to him he changed his life through practicing sobriety. He was sober for the final five years of his life.
I remember him sharing with me about how his relationship to himself had changed. I remember him sharing with me about how his relationship to his view on his wife and marriage had changed. I remember him sharing with me about how the relationship he had with his adult children had changed. I remember him sharing with me about how his relationship with his grandchildren had changed and how much he enjoyed them.
Odie took a chance and did something radically different at the age of 70, and when he died at the age of 75 I think he had had the chance to repair some wrongs and live free.
I'll never forget him. His journey has always spoke volumes to me, and long after his death it still does.
You are not too old, and it is never too late. ✌🏻💜☀️
