About a month ago we left Indonesia to go to Thailand (via Singapore for two days). Today we left Thailand to go back to Indonesia (via Singapore for two days). I do realise there's a lot of world to see, but we're just making sure we've given this particular trail the full disasters/adventures treatment.
Peak: we wandered under the red and yellow lanterns in Singapore's Chinatown and then ordered prawn dumplings and spicy aubergine in a street market as Chinese families broke crab claws and chatted ten to the dozen around us. There was a huge sign saying 'NO PDA' under which two businessmen were sitting po-faced with their Tiger beers, so that tickled me. I made sure I gave Jonny a big old smacker on the lips as we left, ain't no poster gonna tell me where or when I can show affection.
Pit: to stay in Singapore you need a faaaair few dollars. So for the next couple of nights we're in a proper busy, shared-bathroom hostel. I'm not complaining, it's actually cool to feel like twentysomething - rather than thirtysomething - travellers, but the NOISE. It's not massively conducive to sleep when all you can hear is the beep of fire doors releasing, guests yelling "have you seen my camera?", footsteps banging up and down stairs and even a couple having a barney.
So day 153: Chinese whispers only please, NO SHOUTINGS
