Giant clams have ended up in a giant conservation predicament, but thankfully a little relief came recently in the way of a new law in China. Hainan Province has banned the processing and trade of both giant clams and corals. Whether tourists want to eat the meat or purchase shells for good luck or as a curio and status symbol, it's going to be harder for them to do this now thanks to the new regulation.
It's getting more and more difficult to see true giants anymore on reefs. This one was photographed in Palau which has protected their populations better than most.
