2 Images - A portrait of the hill people of India. The #zongkhul Gonpa / Monastery in the #zanskar region is such a hidden treasure in such a remote area that even Google Images has got it wrong for the Images they show..... the location is not available here on Instagram and before we set out from #Padum at breakfast the adjoining table of foreigners who knew the area so well were also clueless about its whereabouts in the Valley. The most fascinating aspect of this monastery hidden deep in an altogether remote section of the #stod valley is the fact that unlike other Buddhist Monasteries of the region, here the monks are allowed to be married & occasionally drink too !!
So post the 1hr .45min ride up the mountain of a barren landscape of cut rock of an altogether different kind in the area, as we reach the base of #Zongkhul after a extremely treacherous drive through the narrow one car road ( well less road more rocks of a path ) we see these group of women working with shovels & carrying cement up all the way for repair work in this remote region with the sun blaring down and oxygen levels of a very low level, and i instantly notice her as i step out of the car ready to take my shot and as i approach her to take a shot .....surprise surprise .... She instantly recognizes me as an actor ..... WOHO..... like here in the middle of nowhere ..... we talk and i take a few shots of her even thou she was so shy, but i did not get a chance to tell her that i seriously have no clue about nail-paint but i think i have never seen a color of nail paint without a chip in it, suiting a woman more on their hands than i did see on her person matching with her attire and headgear as she shoveled cement into bags at the base of the road at #ZhogkhulMonastery. #indiaphotoproject #creativeimagemagazine #apfmagazine #independentwoman #natgeoyourshot #indiagram #Ladakh #zanskar #India 🇮🇳
