We’re attempting today another ‘leg behind the head’ pose where the floor will help us, once again, to hold the position easier. Yes, the back leg is folded in Half Lotus so, if your knee is not happy about that, untuck it and focus on the front leg. Make sure you've warmed up thoroughly beforehand (refer to most of the poses practiced already this month) then, from a Warrior II or Interlock position, fold your body forward, aiming crown to front heel. At this point, depending on how far/close you are, and how exerting it is to hold it, decide if you want to drop the back knee to the mat. It will be easier to stay, but watch out to maintain the hips high (above back knee), or else you’ll have little space to go through! Also, avoid coming on the back toes, lifting the back heel, as that won’t access the hips that much, and you’ll have less stability. Visualize you’re going into a small cave and, on exhale, grab with opposite hand that front foot, and ‘go under’. Each inhalation, stop, let the lungs fill and the body catch up, then, on each exhale, try to go a bit more under (or shorten the distance head-heel). ‘Grab’ the floor with the sole of the foot, so you stay strong and solid on that leg. Use the other arm and shoulder (already passing quite a bit, ideally) to help scoop more torso under. Turn the head sideways, rest the face cheek on the mat. Take a few breaths, if you notice things unlocking, tuck under one last time. Relax stomach and abdomen, don’t ‘fight for it’, rather, let it ‘come to you’ gradually…. I’m so proud of the woman I’ve grown into. This last year was probably the hardest one I’ve ever had but as I started to shed the layers I realized so much was buried. I remember telling someone that I felt like I could see the real me far off in the distance but I couldn’t reach her. I was carrying too much weight. I had to fight hard to get to her, to put the fear and anxiety down .. but man, I am so grateful that I found her. And where I am today .. it’s better than I ever imagined. #RISINGUPSTRONGER .
