✨Take Note - this is amazing✨

“Many women are told, as was I in my youth, that something we did or said or wore or just the way we looked or the fact that we were female had excited sexual desires we were thereby contractually obliged to satisfy. We owed them [men]. They had a right. To us.” - Rebecca Solnit.
I did a photo shoot with the brilliant @cjust in June and many of the photos were of me and my underwear and my converse. Lots of boobs. They weren’t done for men, or to capture some look that would commoditize me into a fuckable object, to gain power, to uphold my end of the bargain of what it means to be a woman. They were for me.
Let me repeat that: I had someone take pictures of my naked body and it wasn’t for you. It was for me. It’s ALWAYS for me.
Men take note: women don’t dress for you. They don’t wear cat eye-liner for you or wear see-through tops for you. They don’t smile to please you or let their ass hang out their shorts to stir your desires. It’s not for you. It’s never for you.
When you see a woman on the street, on social media, on film, on a billboard, on the subway, in a restaurant, at work, anywhere ever, please repeat this to yourself: that is not for me. She is not mine, she doesn’t exist to satisfy my sexual fantasies, she is not my baby, she is not there for me to cat call to, her body/existence/outfit is not an invitation, she owes me nothing, I will respect her and rightfully fear her, I understand rape culture isn’t perpetuated by crop tops and the site of tits; it’s perpetuated by rapists and sexual predators and misogynists and men who think think and/or act like any part of a woman’s existence is somehow for them.
Women don’t need to cover up more or be mindful of the the vibe they give or hide themselves or be careful of being too sexual or protect themselves more - I’ve played that fucking game my whole life and I’m done with it. What needs to change is the thousands of ways men - and we - uphold misogyny. Full stop.
