Advertising representatives started marketing these shiny, sharp tools,
To females because we exist in a capitalist society.
I can just imagine it,
A room full of men,
Agreeing that if they just told females,
That hairlessness was a synonym,
For sexy they wouldn’t be able to resist,
Paying a $1.99 for perfection.
But just in case that wasn’t enough to convince the female market,
They created ads with men in white coats,
Confirming that scrapping the top layer off of your skin,
Was more hygienic.
Never mind the logic, the ingrown hairs, the skin irritation,
Just put unscented lotion on afterwards,
To allow your body to heal from the self-inflicted destruction.
Once a man called me filthy for admitting that I hadn’t shaved in awhile,
Disclaimer: It isn’t cleaner to shave, or wax or chemically burn the hair off of your skin,
It was just a marketing ploy created in 1915,
That we still believe today,
Because we still live in a capitalist society.
It has been three years since I have shaved any part of my body,
Sometimes, I still catch males looking me up and down,
With disgust in their eyes as they realize,
That I was not made to be touched,
Or fucked, or be objectified.
My body was not made for the approval of people who do not know the historical significance of capitalist tools and how brain washed society is collectively.
There is nothing wrong with shaving.
But stop shaming females who choose to love their limbs unaltered and uncut.
I’m sorry to tell you this,
You might want to sit down for this,
Because I know this will be hard to believe.
But females actually do grow hair! // A segment from "The History of Razors" which will be part of my poetry book.
