This trip has been such an amazing experience. It has introduced me to great people and shown me new characteristics about myself. Learning about Public Health in London was an incredible opportunity that I am so grateful for. I appreciate all the work and thought that went into this trip. I hope that everyone got something out of this trip and leaves with only good thoughts. Travel safe everyone #cphhs #osuinlondon #experimentallearning #personaldevelopment #adventure

That’s a wrap on my public health trip to London! I have learned to many new things and now have so many more experiences that provided me with a greater knowledge of public health. Not only did gain knowledge but I have made so many new friends along the way! #adventure #experientiallearning #osuinlondon #cphhs

Today we took our final adventure as a class and it was an extremely memorable one. The overall course was a huge personal development. I grew as a person and met people who I have now made deep connections with. Going through struggles together allowed us to grow. #personaldevelopment #cphhs #osuinlondon

Today, the Thames river is the main source of tap water for London. This river used to be biologically dead in 1957, meaning that the oxygen levels fell so low that no life could inhibit it. However now the sewage system is London has greatly improved with also more awareness about the environment. Now there are over 125 species of fish in the water and it is said to be one of the cleaner rivers to go through a large city. (BBC) #WASH #current #osuinlondon #cphhs

What a great trip!! This is a picture of me and all of my wonderful new friends in front of #britishicon Tower Bridge. This photo was taken before we toured the bridge which was a great opportunity for #experientiallearning. We learned how the bridge was built, the resources it took, and how it affects London today. This has been a #adventure of a lifetime because I had so many great and interesting experiences. I have definitely had tons of #personaldevelopment between navigating public transportation, dealing with crowds (or at least trying), and learning in a brand new city. Thanks for the great memories! #cphhs #osuinlondon

One thing that has been clear in most parts of London is that there is not much accessibility for people in wheelchairs. A new project taking place, however, is a whole new tube line with new stations. These stations will have step-free access allowing more people who are wheelchair bound to freely use the tube as transportation. Now, people of all types will be able to use this reliable and efficient mode of transportation. This was great to see because that was something that was obviously lacking. #equity #cphhs #osuinlondon

These last 3 weeks have been filled with #experientiallearning. We were able to go on several #adventures, like our trip to the London Eye (a #britishicon), as a group and I am so thankful for all of the memories I have made here with all of my new friends 💕 I love my new #community (even you, Morgan💚). I also feel like I’ve grown so much as an individual. My biggest #personaldevelopment has been learning to navigate and be more independent. Big thanks to Aimee for showing us around and teaching us so much about public health! #cpphs #osuinlondon

Over the past 3 weeks I have learned a lot with this #experientiallearning experience. I learned more about public health in the real world setting than I thought I would, had #adventures by visiting Bath and Brighton, had a #personaldevelopment moment when I made it 360 degrees around a 135 meter tall structure and didn’t freak out (too much). #osuinlondon #cphhs

The first picture is of Chester Terrace and the second is of the housing project in Westminster. This is an example of #inequity. While the street divides the physical houses, it also divides many other issues. For example, the people on the project side faces many more health issues than the wealthier side. There are also other access issues such as access to good schools or better food options. #cphhs #osuinlondon

This is two different areas in London. One has a pile of trash on the corner and the other has a Benz in the front. This two pictures show how different two neighborhoods could be. In London, i have noticed that places that look wealthier appear to be cleaner than neighborhoods that look more poor. Income is a #socialdeterminant of health because people with lower income sometimes can’t afford services that will aid them in having the same health opportunities that people with higher incomes. #cphhs #osuinlondon

This experiences has taught us all something new about ourselves. I didn’t come into this trip expecting to make such amazing friends but I am glad I did. Friendship is one of the great gifts of the world and it has helped my mental health incredibly. #experientiallearning #adventure #personaldevelopment #cphhs #osuinlondon

Smoking is one of the biggest #current public health problems this world faces. It is estimated over 1 billion people smoke in the world making it a huge #globalhealth issue. Also, it kills about 5 million people each year. While some countries don’t have regulation with smoking, many do. The UK for example, requires pictures and very little branding on their packages. #cphhs #osuinlondon

This is Tower Bridge. This is an example of #interdependence because it crosses the Thames river and connects many people and things for various reasons. It connect people to family and friends, gets them to their jobs and allows them to do leisure activities. It is also a big factor in the economy. It allows for transport of many people and good. Over 40,000 people use this bridge on a daily basis making it a vital route for the city. #cphhs #osuinlondon

Look at these cute paddington bears! I thought about getting one but the conscious side of me reminded me that I’ll probably never touch it again when I go home. Paddington bear is a fictional character from a book reminding people the hardship refugees went through and that our ancestors were one point refugees too. It is important that learn to respect and help people who come from a different land to adapt to the new culture. #Britishicon#cphhs#osuinlondon

This is milk, which is very safe for me to drink today because of long cleaning processes and heavy regulations. However, for Londoners in the nineteenth century milk would have been one of the ways to contract tuberculosis. Tuberculosis is a #disease that was the greatest cause of death for people in this time. This would happen because cows often had the disease and transmitted it to humans through milk. Tuberculosis has been around for a very long time and is still a #current threat today effecting countries is subsaharan Africa, Southeast Asia, and South America. In 2016, 10.4 million people around the world became sick with TB. While TB can be treated, it is a very deadly infection. #globalhealth #cphhs #osuinlondon

This is St. Mary Magdalene church in Munster Square. Many churches like this one once had a presence in the medical field operating like hospitals. They were a place for the sick to go when they couldn’t go elsewhere. In fact, the typical nurse uniform we think of today has similarities to nun clothing. This shows an example of #interdependence because people relied on these churches to fulfill their faith needs and for a place to worship. Sick people also relied on the churches for a place of treatment and help. #cphhs #osuinlondon

This is a pile of rubbish ready for pickup on the streets of London. Without garbage bins for these trash bags, a sanitation problem is created. The rubbish is not picked up immediately and causes trash to be spread if not properly contained. London produces 100 million tonnes of waste a year. With lots of this waste on the streets, people and animals can be in harms way. #WASH #cphhs #osuinlondon

Our day trip to Bath was a #adventure and a great city to explore rich history. The Roman Bath behind me was first built between 60-70 AD. It was bath house surrounded by natural hot springs. People from all walks of life, rich and poor, came to the bath house and justly infected all who drank from the bath. #equity #ancient #cphhs #osuinlondon
