I’ve been cutting vegetables since I was like 12 & I can count on one hand how many times I’ve ever slipped up & cut myself. Last night I was cutting up some potatoes as part of an offering to give to Ogun. I visit him at the railroad every so often but never in the forest. It’s been a long time since I’ve given him offerings there. I’ll be honest, I’m NOT that witch who gets to go out into nature that often. I work a lot & I also have a huge fear of bugs that I’m still working thru. However last night I was planning to give offering in the woods finally. Of course while slicing up potato #3 I cut my finger. Ok. Point taken. It’s like Ogun was saying “stop taking so long to come out here to see me. I’m the only thing that can harm you out here.” Duly noted, old friend. Too often we either do or don’t do things out of fear. There is no room for fear when it comes to your spiritual development. We have to face our fears in order to eradicate them from our lives. You can do a ritual at every new & full moon, post affirmations daily, meditate twice a day, but if you don’t attempt to face your fears then you are stunting your own spiritual growth. And ain’t nobody got time for that. Bruja life ain’t just some mystical aesthetic. It’s about gaining a higher level of consciousness, healing oneself & YES connecting with Mother Earth in nature. Sometimes the lessons can be hard but once you get to the other side of the road you’ll see that it’s worth it. Full moon is coming next week & what better time to shed & release your fears & baggage? I went outside last night sweating, scared as shit & today I have mosquito bites everywhere but I’d redo it again every night for a hundred nights if I had to. Facing your fears is liberating. So liberate yo self before you wreck yo self! #MaferefunOgun 💚🖤💚

Who Can Practice Ocha?
.
Well, Ocha is an ATR (African Traditional Religion) and Cuban. We don't discriminate against sexuality or gender, gay, trans, NB can all practice. Many people feel that you must be Latinx or Black to practice and I partially believe this.
.....
So, Can you practice? Yes but be careful. Appropriation can make the Orishas bite your ass, honey.
.....
Do you HAVE to be initiated?
.
Short answer: no. Long answer: most practitioners aren't initiated. Initiation is long and expensive and then the year in white. To even be initiated it has to be shown through Diloggun (cowrie divination) that it is needed. There are different types of initiation. You are initiated to certain Orishas based on what the Diloggun says.
.....
Ok sisters I know what you're really here for
.....
What can I do without initiation?
.
Well, you can do Obi divination (more on that later), work with the Eggun (ancestors), Work with your Ori (your head Orisha) and attend masses and some ceremonies, go to consultas (and some more but thats for later)
.
You CANNOT:
Be mounted by an Orisha, do Diloggun, do sacrifices, etc.

Ok let's start simple. .....
What is Santerìa? .
Well, it is an Afro-Cuban religion brought over through Slavery. When the slaves got here they syncretised their religion with Catholicism to hide it. This is why you may see some people refer to the Orishas as Saints or use their Saint name.
.....
What are Orishas?
.
Orishas are not "gods". I say "Gods" because they are not the conventional thought of what gods or deities are. They are forces of nature. Santerìa is considered monotheistic religion because we have the one God, Olodumare, who is considered directly unattainable, but attainable through the Orishas. (I'll go more in depth in a dif post shishters)
.....
Is it open to everyone? .
I'll get into this later too, schisters.
.....
Any other basic information?
.
Lukumi, Lucumi is the ritual language spoken in the religion
.
There is no "Bible", traditions are passed down orally
.
In the religion things can be spelled 1000 different ways and 1 thing can have different names
.
The religion itself can be called Regla de Ocha, Santerìa, Lucùmi, etc.
.
It is initiatory, comminity based, and there are limits
.
There are spiritual families known as Godfamilies. Or Ilès (houses)
.....
I will delve more into each topic later on.

From our collection:
“Manuel Mendive unites man’s body to the earth that generated him, to the plants and animals, water and sky, to Mother Nature in which he is a creature among creatures, and in which he finds the reason, time and space of his very existence. It is a totalizing concept of art in which the pictorial mixes with that of the body and soul to reach an intense emotional height, where art and spirit reflect harmony and peace of mind.” Carol Damian

In the 1970s, the artist gained recognition for his unique combination of European and African styles in promoting Afro-Cuban culture. His works are in the collections of the National Museum of Fine Arts in Havana, the Museum of Modern Art in Paris, and the Ethnographic Museum of Budapest, among others. The artist lives and works in San Jose de la Lagas.
