One day you’re gonna wake up on a fine morning like this and say “Damn, @alexwill64 was right.” 😝 Just joking—I could be wronger than a muhfucka who enters Walmart through the exit doors—like, it clearly says “EXIT” above the automated doors & all the glares of contempt from the other Walmart customers are on you & the door greeter is frowning at you with a smiley face pin on his/her employee vest, but you still proudly walk through those exit doors & dare any muhfucka to say something about it. 🙃
Lol my point in all this is, it boils down to what is right & true to you—in Walmart, the customer is always right. In the Korean beauty supply stores & Arab-owned bodegas, the Black customer is always wrong lol. So since everybody has their own version of what’s right & true or wrong & false, who gets to decide which version is the best? To me, they are all level & equal—they are based on our own subjective preferences, which can vastly or slightly vary from person to person. If each one is allowed to exist here, then they are all permitted—your allowance in this universe to be your version of right is the same as someone else’s allowance to be their versions of right.
If everyone was to follow behind your subjective preferences of the world, they would be imprisoned by your perception of righteousness & truth.
So am I right?
Wait, scratch that—
Does it matter if I’m right?
I’m on that left-hand path shit anyway. 🤷🏿‍♂️⚫️

Experiential learning is the process of learning through experience, and is more specifically defined as "learning through reflection on doing." -

Since educators are always thinking of ways to frame meaningful learning experiences that engage our students, I decided to participate in my own experiential learning activity. The fall is my favorite season to spend time outdoors, so I began the day with a discovery walk in nature. -

According to Bright Horizons: "The natural world is a giant, open-ended learning laboratory. Children are innate scientists and love to experience the sights, scents, sounds, and textures of the outdoors. Nature provides countless opportunities for discovery, creativity, problem-solving, and STEM education." -

Research shows that interacting with natural environments allows children to learn by doing and experiment with ideas. In nature, children are free to think, question, and make hypotheses—thereby developing inquisitive minds. -

In that sense, every walk outside is an opportunity for children (and adults) to learn about and explore the natural world. -

As I reflect on my discovery walk today, I think about the extraordinary setting I encountered (pictured)—not far from where I live, the wildlife I noticed there that I'd never seen before, and how I found myself being led by a sense of curiosity and wonder the whole way. -

Get your students, get yourself outdoors for a discovery walk. Go explore the "giant, open-ended laboratory" of the natural world. Highly recommended. —db

“Self-education is the only possible education; the rest is mere veneer laid on the surface of a child’s nature” ~ Charlotte Mason ☝️ One of the most meaningful quotes in my opinion. How inspiring it is to see a child learning about their own interests; to see their excitement when they discover their passion. Valentina loves educating herself on the subjects she’s most passionate about, science, including zoology, botany, chemistry, biology, and anatomy. She also loves programming and robotics, art history, Japanese, poetry, and cooking. She fills her days with information mostly by herself. No direction. All we ask is for her to narrate what she learned. It’s incredible to see her progress and to see her spark when she discovers something new. Pure magic ✨💕

Our #totschool theme for October is: Autumn

We are currently reading this beautiful book that demonstrates where animals go to hibernate/adapt in the winter months.

Our #werock board from @little_goat_gruff is the perfect platform for discussing over and under the snow, great for our theme and for the concept of above/below and under/over

Built and boxed 6 today, wish I could work with at least double speed😭🙈 24 hours a day is just not enough😫

After a trip to the library. You can’t tell from the picture, but of course Valentina chose books about Japan 🇯🇵, pumpkin carving, and chemistry, while Julie chose a book about China 🇨🇳 and Fairytales. Valentina got home and started reading the Japanese book and told me all about Tokyo and about the 2011 tsunami which caused the accident in the nuclear power plant. A few months ago, we were walking in NYC and for some reason the subject came up, so I had spoken to her about the accident, radiation, and nuclear power plants and she wanted to know more about it. I saw the spark in her eyes when she was telling me more about what she found in the book about it. I seriously live for those moments when I see that spark ✨ This is why I homeschool 💕

This was a quick but fun sensory and scooping activity. 💙 It obviously didn't last long since the ice melted pretty fast but Summer stayed and played with the water that was now mixed with different colors from the ice cubes.🌈
