There is a perception in childhood that playing and learning are different things, that they consist of differing methods or perhaps achieve seperate outcomes. 'Playing' has become such an unvalued word within our society and it encourages us here at NavyBaby to continue advocating for play and how play and learning go hand in hand. There isn’t one without the other.
Maybe play and learning will happen if children are allowed to make their own discoveries when they're ready to, with no adult expectations or values. To discover literacy while drawing in the mud with a stick. To understand weight by loading buckets of sand. To discover gravity while biking down a ramp. To learn empathy by hearing and watching the adults around them. To learn to communicate effectively by negotiating toys and space with others. Every single second of a childs play is them adding another layer to their understanding.
We don't play and then learn at a seperate time.
Playing is learning.
