“Don’t you see you can’t live however you please, squandering what God paid such a high price for? The physical piece of you is not some property belonging to the spiritual part of you. God owns the whole works. So let God in and through your body.” (1Cor 6)
I read this earlier today, and I thought WOAH. My workouts + the way I care for my body are just as much a ministry as feeding the homeless, caring for the widows or orphans, ministering the sick and the hurting.
Gods word literally tells me to show people who my God is by the way I look after this physical body of mine. As believers, so many of us are volunteers for the children’s ministry, or lead a bible study, maybe we even do the occasional mission trip (all amazing things we are called to do) But a lot of us do not take seriously our personal health + wellness. We right it off with excuses like “I don’t have time”, “it’s not that important”, “I’ll worry about that in the new year”, “I’ll start Monday”, “I just love sweets too much”... << insert your reason >> but the truth is every Christian is called to be on mission to share who God is by the way we care for our body. Doing the things I listed above-being involved in ministries at the church are so important. But we are ALSO called to take care of our physical bodies.
Working out today was not my favorite thing- I am super sore from yesterday and lacked motivation. But hearing that I can show my faith in God by looking after what he entrusted me with, made all the difference between staying at home cozy in my pjs and crashing the gym for day 10 of my bootcamp!
Truth is not convenient or easy to hear. But it’s important to not let the gods of the world (food, convenience, laziness, quick fixes, immediate gratification, self-indulgence) convince us our bodies are not a vital aspect to our ministry. It IS NOT about looking a certain a way. It’s about loving + serving the God you believe in with what he’s entrusted you with. Today, move. Sweat, and live out your calling as a responsible tenant of the body you look after #livesownwithstrength
